Well it's only as lease. When the caps get that stadium built, it will be a beaut.

What do people think of putting Canadian soccer teams in huge stadiums? Won't the crowds lose
something if they get spread out too much in a huge setting?

Well, if there's the demand to fill the seats why would it be a problem? As long as the stadium is built in a way that enhances the experience and creates an intimate environment....steep seating does that.

Well Vancouver right now plays in a little 6000 seat stadium. I doubt the demand would be as high as to fill BC Place, but I'm sure they would gain in attendance playing in a bigger stadium in the middle of downtown. Besides, their still focused on building their own ground.

How many here have season tickets to the FC? How much does it cost for a season?

Of course it depends on the sections:

I have season tickets in section 110 with my brother. I also go to a few games in section 118 with my friends when they have an extra ticket and then give my regular seat to one of my friends.

We also have half seasons in 220 but I try to avoid sitting in that section (since it's the worst of the seats we have) and usually give those seats to friends that don't have tickets but love soccer.

I'd mostly go just to soak up the fun of the fan action, as I don't really follow the game. One of these days I will buy a scalper's ticket on a sunny day and check it out!!

Well, the problem is that the Caps existing 6,000 seat stadium is out in the middle of nowhere....it's not the type of venue you want to go to, and it's far from anything. Even then, usually the Caps are able to sellout all 6,000 seats.

I actually watched part of the game tonight! Was pretty exciting, really. Does each of the teams get one point for a draw?

Yes.

3pts for a win
1pt for a draw
0pts for a loss

Yeah, the whole point of SSS isn't for aesthetic or Fan experience. Those are just nice side benefits, but the main reason is for revenue. So a team can get more cash and not pay rent.
It's the reason that DC United despite having an average neat 18k, is still losing money. Seattle are owned by the same people that own Safeco field...so it's not an issue.

I don't think theres any city that can expect to have a team handed it to them. It's going to take a lot more than it did in the pass. No city really "deserves" a team. I mean, is Vancouver somehow more worthy than Portland or Montreal over St. Louis. Not really, it's basically gonna go to whoever has their ducks in the row and brown-nose their way to a team.
It's like the game within the game.

I'd prefer St. Louis, just cause St. Louis is close and would be an instant rival.
I'm sure that's why TFC fans prefer Montreal. I think we will both get our wish.

... I agree with you.

I was thinking about that as I watch DC Toronto tonight in a huge stadium.

The best thing for Toronto FC is to forever keep the stadium small - with the maximum size of a ring the size of the West bleachers.

Packed stadium creates a passion for the team - you make the game a hot ticket. Imagine how flat the atmosphere would be if Toronto FC played in the SkyDome?

The reason the Leafs have remained popular is the fact that nobody can get tickets to the game - Toronto FC should work this angle.

What a disappointing loss. Dichio was the only player that had a good game in my opinion. To be up 2-1 and then to just slack off and lose it in the second half is not the type of play I expect from TFC this season. I hope they bounce back on the weekend.

Toronto fc is so popular in toronto, MLSE actually expecting about 15 000 additional fans at BMO from the 9000 wait list.
