There's plans for a bypass around Middletown, connecting with DE 1, and a spur to the Summit Bridge, but funding is low. Nevertheless, the right-of-way has been cleared in a couple areas:

I was looking into the U.S. Virgin Islands, and they turn out to drive on the left.

I wonder why they don't switch to driving on the right, apparently nearly all cars are left-hand drive (for driving on the right) and most tourists are from the U.S. which causes confusion.

A conversion to driving on the right shouldn't be that difficult for a small road network with only local traffic and little if any foreign vehicles.

I wonder if they drove on the right when it was still a part of Denmark (until 1916). There probably weren't many cars back then, but still.

US 10 / WI-441, Appleton, WI

Tri-County Freeway gets green light for $550M expansion

State and local officials broke ground today on a five-year, $550 million expansion of the Tri-County Freeway, including the construction of a second, parallel bridge over Little Lake Butte des Morts.

(...)

The long-awaited project will reconstruct and widen, from four to six lanes, a six-mile stretch of State 441/U.S. 10 between County CB in the Town of Menasha and Oneida Street in Appleton.

It also will reconstruct the U.S. 41-State 441/U.S. 10 interchange, providing free-flowing movements in all directions.

What are you ???ing about?

(If it's the evacuation route, that's probably for hurricanes. You see those in low-lying areas in the Northeast too.)

I didn't see any evacuation routes. In fact, I didn't see anything at all up until now. No pictures. Just little blue squares...

Sometimes when I post too many pictures in different threads from my Picassa account it happens for a short time. Apparently it might happen when there is too many requests to see the pictures in the same time.

I hope things work now.

That last set of pictures were nice. LOL at the bullet holes in the evacuation sign.

That was from when Hurricane Katrina interfered with the beginning of the Ole Miss football season.

The funny thing is that, in the 5 days I've been in LA, I've never seen a congested freeway, except for the one in Hollywood who goes next to the Metro Red Line, and just at night when I was going back to the hotel.

It is interesting to note that despite Los Angeles having the worst traffic congestion in the United States, the average travel times are relatively short for a megacity (10+ M). The average travel time to work in Los Angeles County (29.1 minutes) is actually shorter than in Manhattan (30.2 minutes) despite the huge difference in area.

Loop 375, El Paso, TX

http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_26170001

An article by the El Paso Times on the Loop 375 toll lanes.

Although officials call the number of transactions 'going pretty well', the lanes are heavily underutilized, basically to the point that they are a total waste of money.

Here are figures;

The authority had 9,920 toll-tag transactions and 29,351 pay-by-mail usage in April. In May, it had 10,841 toll-tag transactions and 26,696 pay-by-mail transactions.

That is 37,500 transactions in May. That is only 1,200 transactions per day, or 600 per direction. And a user may make more transactions than 1 on a trip on the express lanes, which means there is practically no traffic on these toll lanes, probably around 500 per day per direction. An HOV lane would be considered "heavily underutilized" if it carried that kind of traffic per hour.

According to TxDOT, the 2012 AADT on that particular stretch of Loop 375 was only 33,000 vehicles per day on four lanes. Traffic could easily double without requiring additional capacity. It's beyond me why they constructed these express toll lanes. There is simply no demand for it, even a toll-free widening would be hard to justify which such AADT figures.

The bridge is not extraordinary large, but I like this project.
