The Inner City Loop is maintained by the city of Rochester. However, the demolition and reconstruction is paid for mostly by federal funds. The Rochester share of the cost ($ 400,000 out of $ 20 million) is less than half a year worth of maintenance on the Inner Loop.

OH-59, Innerbelt Freeway, Akron, Ohio

The city of Akron plans to demolish an 0.9 mile segment of the Innerbelt Freeway by 2016. This segment of freeway is hugely oversized for its current usage, it is a six-lane freeway with frontage roads that carries only 12,800 vehicles per day.

Oh, my.

I see that and think of

"I went back to Ohio
"And my city was gone."

It looks like it was in very bad shape already.

Oh well. Unfortunately removing it doesn't seem like a huge gain for the fabric of central Akron though, it has a cemetary on one side and some hospital superblocks on the other. Meh.

I don't see the advantage either, other than reducing maintenance cost, but that may be a state issue.

Now an empty trench they will have

It seems kind of weird - the freeway ends and then goes to next freeway at a diamond interchange. But the Interstates below and rt 8 are over 100k vpd. Maybe an upgrade of the end of the freeway would attract more east-north traffic and reduce pressure on the interstate and rentabilize the existing hwy...

I often pass through here (the US 22/I-287 junction) on my way to and from Mom's. On 22, not 287 (or this would be the wrong thread!). There's been major construction going on there for some time, and this Saturday I was greeted for the first time by an express/local choice, eastbound. But I don't know if that's what they're doing permanently or it's just where the construction's at at the moment.

NM-423, Paseo del Norte, Albuquerque, NM

The I-25 / NM-423 (Paseo del Norte) interchange opens to traffic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It also includes a mile of new freeway. This completes the Paseo del Norte upgrade project, which created a 5 mile freeway corridor through northern Albuquerque. The project cost was $ 93 million.

The I-25 interchange is the main feature:

It's amusing, I kept thinking "US 30" on one of the routes, but only had Breezewood in mind (and it clearly isn't...)
