The stupidest thing I ever heard. One by itself is one thing but both?! Glad I don't live in Florida

Maybe it looks like a warzone in the spirit how George W Bush himself would have liked it.
I'm waiting for the Barack Obama expressway, that will feature a high-tech traffic management system that works by tapping the phones of the drivers.

President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX

Construction has recently started on the President George Bush Turnpike widening in the northern suburbs of Dallas, Texas. The turnpike will be widened from six to eight lanes. The first phase started in May 2015 and runs from the Dallas North Tollway to US 75. The second phase starts in 2016 and includes the turnpike west from DNT to I-35E and east from US 75 to SH 78. Both projects are planned for completion in 2019.

Dallas North Tollway, Dallas, TX

Another widening project started recently on the Dallas North Tollway. The tollway will be widened from six to eight lanes between the President George Bush Turnpike and the Sam Rayburn Tollway. The existing stack interchange between DNT and PGBT will also be expanded.

Sam Rayburn Tollway, Dallas, TX

A third planned project is the widening of the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121) in the outer suburbs of Dallas. It is planned to be widened from six to eight lanes in two phases;

* 2018-2020: SH 121 Business - Dallas North Tollway
* 2019-2022: Dallas North Tollway - US 75

This section of toll road only opened in 2008-2009.

Wow they just built that toll road not too long ago. They should have just made it 8 lanes to begin with.

Yes it opened in 2008-2009. That part of DFW is growing very rapidly.

I know I used to live near there. Its just crazy that they didn't plan ahead enough to make it 4 lanes to begin with. The DFW metro is growing north quickly for many years with no end in sight. Very short sighted of them.

SH 365, South Texas

The construction of the State Highway 365 toll road in Hidalgo County, Texas, has been given the green light. It is a 13 mile toll road that connects two international bridges to Mexico south of Pharr, McAllen and Mission.

It will be a part of a planned 120 mile loop system in Hidalgo County. It is indicated in yellow on this map:

it was probably designed to be easily widened. The 407 in Toronto (another toll road) was designed so that lanes could easily be added when needed. All that was required was widening bridge decks and laying down an extra strip of concrete. Parts of the 407 were being widened well under 6 years after opening.

Only if you count all connector roads and frontage roads.

The Katy Freeway generally has 14 lanes of traffic; 5 general purpose and 2 toll lanes in each direction. It's not overly generously designed for traffic counts of max 383,000 vehicles per day.

The new configuration at I-610, between US 290 and I-10, will be significantly wider.
