Poinciana Parkway, Florida

A new toll road opened to traffic today in Florida. It is the 9 mile long Poinciana Parkway in Osceola County, south of Orlando. It is a super-two toll road with two interchanges in Poinciana. It includes a bridge that is over 1 mile long. It runs from US 17/92 to Cypress Parkway.

The southern part that passes by Poinciana was built in only 1 year. February 2015 imagery on Google Earth doesn't even show any forest clearing, now it's open to traffic.

There are grade-separated interchanges at Marigold Avenue and KOA Street. The Poinciana Parkway is reportedly numbered as State Road 538.

US 183, Austin, Texas

A FONSI or Finding of No Significant Impact has been issued for the expansion of US 183 in Austin, from Loop 1 to SH 45 / RM 620. It's a 7 mile segment that will be expanded.

The expanded freeway will get 2 tolled express lanes in each direction and one additional general purpose lane in each direction, for a grand total of 12 through lanes on this corridor. Combined with non-continuous auxiliary lanes and frontage roads, the corridor contains 18 to 20 lanes overall.

Remarkably, no additional right-of-way is needed for this project. The expansion is possible without needing to expand the corridor outward.

In addition, two interchanges will get additional flyovers (direct connectors). The northern RM 620 interchange will feature direct connectors to and from RM 620 (south to west and vice versa). The southern Loop 1 interchange will feature additional direct connectors to connect the express lanes on both freeways, adding two direct connectors (north to south and vice versa).

The US 183 / Loop 1 interchange:

General cross-profile of US 183 (3 frontage + 4 GP + 2 ETL in both directions).

Washington Route 99

Alaskan Way Viaduct (Washington SR 99) is re-opening to traffic ahead of schedule. 99 is one of ONLY TWO high capacity north-south roadways through downtown Seattle. The viaduct has been closed while Bertha tunnels underneath. She has made enough progress to warrant opening the tunnel early.

From KOMO news.

Cool! It's like a little piece of the early 20th century still hanging around.

K-10, Lawrence, Kansas

This April 2016 Google Earth imagery shows K-10 around Lawrence, Kansas (South Lawrence Trafficway) practically completed except for the connection to existing K-10 at a new directional interchange.

Very good video to see how big is the I-4 improvement located in Orlando, FL:

21 miles of reconstruction.

Lubbock Outer Loop

The LOL - Lubbock Outer Loop is a freeway planned to encircle the southwest periphery of Lubbock, Texas.

This is the LOL - US 87 interchange (north is up).

US 460 Connector, Virginia

The tallest bridge in Virginia is built as part of the US 460 Connector near the Kentucky-Virginia state line. Less than 1 mile is currently built in Virginia, but won't open until the Kentucky segment is completed in late 2017. The bridges are over 250 ft high.
