SH 99 Grand Parkway, Houston, TX

TxDOT plans to expand the oldest section of SH 99 / Grand Parkway to six lanes through Cinco Ranch / Katy.

This part of SH 99 opened to traffic in 1994, but had mostly only frontage roads, with some overpasses. More mainlanes were added by 2005, turning it into a freeway.

Current traffic volumes are between 60,000 and 70,000 vehicles per day, according to the TxDOT planning map.

This would be a simple inward expansion of SH 99, there is ample space in the median. This section of SH 99 is located in the fastest-growing area of Houston. Katy has a population of only 16,000, but some 310,000 people live in the Greater Katy ISD (school district).

Texas Loop 1, Austin

The Mopac express lane opened to traffic in Austin, Texas. The Mopac Expressway, numbered as Loop 1, is a major freeway in Austin. The express lanes (one in each direction) run from Cesar Chavez Boulevard near Downtown to Parmer Lane in the north. It is approximately 12 miles long. It is now completed, but a good 2 years behind schedule due to a bankruptcy and other issues.

Impressive highway. Sunken roadway, diamond grinds concrete, wide shoulders. Looks like a pleasure to drive on

Some photos of the then recently opened Texas 71 Toll Lanes near Austin Airport. With exception of the final photo, all views look easterly, leaving the Austin Metro area. The large interchange at the end of the photo tour is that with TX-130 Toll.

NC-12 Bonner Bridge

The Bonner Bridge replacement in North Carolina. It is part of NC-12, the state highway across the Outer Banks. This photo was taken mid-September.

I'm glad there is an option to get into Austin from 71 without traffic lights yet this is such a weird and almost confusing implementation of a tollway. They should have made it free. To me the weirdest part is the "tollway" after FM 973 going west, I'm not sure why the toll lane continues when anyone (Me) can jump on to that portion for free. Again better than nothing yet there are some traffic lights to the east of this tollway that need to be eliminated to make 71 a perfect way to get to Houston while connecting to Interstate 10.

Yeah, thats the dirty little trick they designed that the locals know about but the out of towners do not. There is an on ramp before 973 for those coming of tollway 130 heading west. If you get on then, guess what? You get zapped for a couple dollars toll for going 500 FREAKING FEET!. You can see the electronic toll plaza right after the on ramp.

That toll lane should have been a free lane, while is Austin is filled with the tech rich who will pay the $5.00 variable toll on this, it will not alleviate traffic or make a dent. Then again, those who know the history of Austin know Mopac almost did not get built.

Nice pics by the way, who knows when the southbound side will be finished.

Here's an overview of removal of at-grade intersections and upgrades to interchanges for Delaware Route 1 in southern Kent County. DE 1 is already an expressway from just north of I-95, south past Dover to Magnolia. Other than a few houses along the road, DE 1 will be limited access to Milford in 5 years, and major at-grade intersections in Sussex County will be eliminated in the near-future as well.

#1 at Thompsonville Road is already done. #4 and #5 are being worked on now.

https://www.deldot.gov/information/p...se_Display.pdf

I would love to see the sprinkling of houses and businesses on DE 1 between Magnolia and Nassau either bought and demolished, or moved back and accessed by frontage roads. Delaware is close to having a limited-access highway go from I-95 and the Wilmington/Newark metro area down to the beach towns. (There have also been proposals to turn US 113 to limited access from Milford south, to alleviate traffic in the beach towns by diverting southern beach town traffic inland.)

NC-12 Bonner Bridge

Aerial footage of the Bonner Bridge replacement in the North Carolina Outer Banks. This project is progressing quickly, they only started in March 2016 and several spans are already standing. During that time, 3 tropical storms and 2 hurricanes affected the area.

The Dutch Rijkswaterstaat archive contains some historic photos of the U.S.

US 1 in Maryland, location unknown, possibly 1930s?
