وقد اطلع سموه على مجسم ضخم للمشروع بحضور سمو الشيخ حمدان بن محمد بن راشد ال مكتوم ولي عهد دبي وسمو الشيخ مكتوم بن محمد بن راشد ال مكتوم نائب حاكم دبي ومعالي محمد عبد الله القرقاوي وزير شؤون مجلس الوزراء وسعادة الفريق مصبح راشد الفتان مدير مكتب صاحب السمو نائب رئيس الدولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي الى جانب عدد من المسؤولين.

كما شاهد سموه والحضور عرضا لمكونات المشروع الحضاري التنموي مبديا سموه ارتياحه لما تضمنه المشروع من افكار خلاقة ستجعل منه فريدا من نوعه لجهة اهدافه وتصاميمه الهندسية والمعالم والصروح التعليمية والانسانية والتاريخية التي ستشكل محور المشروع.

واعتبر معالي محمد عبد الله القرقاوي الرئيس التنفيذي لدبي القابضة ان المشروع الوليد انما يعكس رؤية صاحب السمو نائب رئيس الدولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي بشأن خلق بيئة نظيفة خالية من اى ملوثات حرصا من سموه على صحة ومستقبل الاجيال الواعد من ابناء الوطن وحماية بيئتنا والحفاظ عليها وهذا تجسد كذلك في قرار سموه السابق بإنشاء مبان خضراء تكون صديقة للبيئة وتسهم في تقنين استخدامات الطاقة وحماية مواردنا الطبيعية من الهدر.

واضاف معاليه ان ما يميز / حدائق محمد بن راشد / هي المساحات الخضراء الشاسعة والتركيز على الجانب التعليمي والبحثي من خلال الجامعات والكليات والمعاهد المتخصصة بالاضافة الى الجوانب الانسانية والتاريخية والثقافية.

وتضمن العرض الذي حضره صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد ال مكتوم ومرافقوه شرحا تفصيليا لملكونات واقسام المشروع واهم معالمه العمرانية والطبيعية والسياحية والترفيهية والتعليمية والتاريخية.

ويتميز المشروع بأنه يركز على زيادة رقعة المساحات الخضراء حيث تصل الى نسبة 73 بالمائة من اجمالي مساحة المشروع البالغة 880 مليون قدم مربع / ثمانمائة وثمانون مليون قدم مربع / وتصل قيمته الاجمالية الى مئتي مليار درهم وهو يتكون من اربعة بيوت الاول يسمى / بيت الحكمة / ويضم بين جنباته دورا للترجمة ومكتبة مركزية وحدائق للمعرفة ومقار للمنظمات الدولية ونصب الابتكار وجامعات عالمية وكليات للتاريخ والعلوم اضافة الى المسجد الجامع مسجد محمد بن راشد.

Dubai, Apr 11th, 2008 (WAM)--Vice President, Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has launched AED200 billion parks' project initiative to preserve environment and stretch landscape.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the layout of project in presence of Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Dubai Ruler HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, state minister of cabinet affairs and chief executive officer of Dubai Holding and other high ranking officials.

He expressed his pleasure about the project, which includes creative ideas, superb designs and fundamental educational, humanitarian and historic landmarks.

The AED200 billion project will cover land area of 880 million square feet. It will be executed by Dubai Properties, a member of Dubai Holding. The project will include four houses: Bait Al Hikma, will include translation unit, central library, knowledge garden and offices for international organisations, universities and mosque. The second house, will be humanitarian house, which will include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian Establishment, UNICEF, light museum, humanitarian civilisation museum and charity offices. The third house, is allocated for nature. It will include extensive integrated family parks, specialised environment laboratories, colleges specialised in environment, hotels and entertainment clubs, as well as gardens for flowers and alternative medicine clinics. The fourth house, is allocated for commerce. Al Gergawi said the coming up project "reflects vision of Sheikh Mohammed on clean environment free from pollution to safeguard health of coming generations", adding that it is also in line with previous resolution of constructing green buildings friendly to environment.

He added that the Sheikh Mohammed gardens will be distinguished with extensive landscape and educational, tourist and historical landmarks.

Hashim Al Dabal, executive chairman of Dubai Properties, said the company will commence work upon instructions and blessing from Sheikh Mohammed and in coordination with competent corporations to prepare infrastructure for the project, which is set to be a conspicuous landmark in the UAE.

I'm very sure I found out the projects location. The area marked in red is exactly 81 sq. km and there aren't any developments planned for this area yet. When this location is right it is the biggest landrefill project ever for Dubai and it will operate as a 'bridge' between old Dubai and Dubailand:

But, wouldn't it actually be the opposite of environmental? Turning a natural desert into an area full of many fields and trees will result in a great increase in water usage. I am not sure this is a gread idea for a region that may be facing water shortages with an increasing population.

I had heard sometime back from a landscape engineer that the royals were planning a park area bigger than the city of Paris. I guess this is it. But I don't get the "four houses" thing in the blurb. It doesn't really sound like it will be a very public area like a park. It really doesn't sound anything like a New York Central Park.
