Casino Complex to be developed at Incheon International Airport

http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20141120000897

The large casino complex, developed by Paradise Group in cooperation with Japanese firm Sega Sammy, is scheduled to open in July 2017.

I'm not sure, but from looking at the map, it seems that it will be located at the International Business Center station on the Airport Maglev Line

Gambling is prohibited for Koreans and only foreign passport holders will be admitted at the tables.

Well, I think they will come from a combination of countries, namely Japan, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, and many other Southeast Asian and Oceania nations.

Here's something great from ICN... from the Korea Herald:

Incheon Airport Railroad lures foreign travelers

With a rise of mass transit options that allow travelers to connect between large cities and their airports, Seoul's AREX (Airport Railway Express) sure gives foreign travelers a first glimpse of what South Korea is all about. And it allows travelers easy access between Seoul's two main airports, Incheon and Gimpo. Can its success be replicated in other airports and cities as well?

Quote:
The Incheon Airport Railroad is attracting a rising number of foreign travelers thanks to its easy and convenient access to downtown Seoul, according to both railway officials and passengers.

The trains depart from Incheon International Airport Station to connect to Gimpo International Airport and other key spots in Seoul.

On-time departures and arrivals, along with a short connecting time, appeared to be some of the factors behind the recent surge in foreign passengers using the trains.

http://www.aci.aero/Data-Centre/Mont...y/Year-to-date

Incheon International Airport's passenger traffic has increased 8.3% year-to-date, and (so far), has become the 22nd busiest airport in 2014 (leapfrogging Charlotte, Las Vegas and Bangkok).

According to the airport website, Passenger traffic was up 8.7% in September, 14.4% in October, and 12.6% in November (YoY).
http://www.airport.kr/iiac/pds/sta/Sta_01.iia?lang=E

So traffic could increase by close to 10% this year. So far 9.3% increase. Seoul could maybe even overtake San Francisco for 21st busiest airport (in terms of passenger traffic).

By the way, does anyone have any pictures of the construction site of Terminal 2. I got a glimpse at it when taking off from the airport in October (so far, a lot of activity, but still mainly foundation works). But if someone had some pictures to show the state of progress, that'd be great!

Seoul Incheon Airport Tops in Duty-Free Sales
Seoul’s Incheon Airport claims its duty-free shops did more than 2 trillion won, or about $1.84 billion, worth of business last year, beating out the sales volume of the shops at both the Dubai International Airport and London’s Heathrow. Wan-su Park, president and chief executive officer of Incheon International Airport Corporation, released the figures last month, claiming they set a new international record for duty-free sales.

Incheon was the first airport in the world to house Louis Vuitton in 2011. It is home to more than 500 brands including Louis Vuitton, Bally, Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Hermθs, MCM, Bulgari, Gucci, Longchamp, Montblanc, Salvatore Ferragamo and Coach. Incheon International Airport is the main gateway to South Korea and a major destination for Chinese travellers.

Siemens to Supply Baggage Handling System for New Terminal at Incheon Airport
Together with the South Korean company Posco, Siemens has been awarded the contract for a baggage handling system in the new Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport in South Korea.

The system will have a throughput capacity of more than 22,000 items of baggage an hour. The contract covers the layout, engineering, assembly, commissioning and integration of the system, as well as connecting it to the existing baggage handling system. Completion is planned in September 2017 in time for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

At around 40 million passengers a year, Incheon Airport is one of Asia's ten biggest airports, offering 88 airlines to 174 domestic and international destinations. In response to rising passenger numbers, Incheon International Airport Corporation is now building the new Terminal 2. Once the terminal has been completed, the airport will be able to handle up to 62 million passengers a year.

Siemens will supply a complete baggage handling system for the new terminal. With a total conveyor belt length of around 42km, the system will use tray and belt conveyors to transport the baggage. Included in the system to be supplied by Siemens is the installation of 14 make-up carousels, as well as 18 laterals for final sortation, more than 216 check-in counters for the departures area and ten baggage carousels in the arrivals area. In addition, there will be an early baggage storage facility for 2,000 units, which will provide interim storage for items of baggage and allow individual access to bulky items.

The minimum connecting time for Incheon International Airport, which guarantees that the baggage is transferred to the connecting flight, is only 45min. The system, which will be controlled using IT and automation systems, will be integrated into the existing infrastructure.
