They ought to replace the mall with more dense developments. It's going to have more tall buildings around it, and will look weird.

Extreme. I'm going to use this pic for examples as how I don't want my city to look like.

I'm hoping over time, that they'll replace Square One with a street grid bit by bit. It's doable, and the dramatically increased densities they could attain could make the conversion profitable.

Congratulations on Absolute World for placing within the Top 5 in the 2011 Skyscraper of the Year. Technically, it's 5th to 8th, but Absolute gave the closest fight in the quarterfinals, statistically speaking (with 44.15% share, compared to the 43.63% share of the 6th placer). Hence, it is 5th.

This is a major achievement for the City of Mississauga. The architectural world has taken notice of this awesome pair of buildings. Bravo to the city, and I hope that when I come back south sometime in the future, there would be a lot more interesting things happening in the city. I salute the city for their urbanization efforts and I wish them good luck and more power to this city.

Thanks for those two precious years down south. Now, I'm coming back to the cold and desolate North...

Canada’s curvy ‘Marilyn Monroe’ among award-winning skyscrapers

A pair of curvaceous Canadian towers dubbed the “Marilyn Monroe,” an Australian skyscraper that breathes, an Italian building that evokes Milan’s Galleria, and a cylindrical tower in Qatar whose skin evokes Islamic decoration were named on Wednesday the best new tall buildings in the world.

The Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, a group of architects and structural engineers that monitors tall building projects around the world, said there had been a “renaissance” in skyscraper development. A record 88 towers taller than 200 meters (656 feet) were completed in 2011 — compared to 32 such projects in 2005.
