First Phase of OTP Development and Expansion- 2010: Finger and parking expansion plans

Romania: General Manager Tudor Jidav has announced that Bucharest-Otopeni International Airport will open a new passenger terminal at the end of 2010, following a EUR 70 million (US$ 100 million) investment. Construction will be supported by the airport's own funds.

The new terminal with 15 boarding gates will increase the annual capacity to 6 million passengers, compared with the current 4.5 million, while the capacity per hour will increase from 1,100 passengers to 2,150. The investment is part of the third phase of a EUR 150 million development and moderniza-tion project at the airport. This phase also includes setting up a terminal for international arrivals until December 2011 and expanding the international departures terminal.

New Terminal Of Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport To Be Put In Use In March 2011

The construction of the new terminal building of the Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport will be finalized in November and the terminal will be put in use in March 2011, along with Romania's accession to the Schengen Area.

"The new terminal will be used for arrivals and departures from and to destinations in both Schengen and non-Schengen space, and it will be put in use in March 2011", airport spokesperson Valentin Iordache said Friday.

Iordache added the airport's capacity will reach six million passengers in 2012.

Investments in the airport's new terminal amount to EUR60 million and construction works are executed by Italian company Astaldi.

Henri Coanda International Airport was certified as international airport under the new legal provisions in the field, which represents a prerequisite for Romania's accession to the Schengen Area. The certification as international airport is part of requirements for Schengen accession and allows fights to non-Schengen states.

Yes, they've done a good and fast job! And this is only the first stage of the expansion with the 14 gates for the Schengen area. Next year, after completing this, they will start works on a brand new terminal with a capacity of 20 million passengers.

Administratia Romana a Serviciilor de Trafic Aerian (ROMATSA) a inaugurat, marti, Centrul de Coordonare a Cautarii si Salvarii (SAR), care va gestiona situatiile de urgenta create de producerea unor eventuale accidente in aviatia civila. La implementarea sistemului informatic si de comunicatii a participat si Serviciul de Telecomunicatii Speciale (STS). De asemenea, ROMATSA a inaugurat un simulator 3D de trafic aerian pentru turnul de control. Simulatorul a fost pus in functiune la Aeroportul International Henri Coanda.

"Scopul centrului de salvare este ca Romania sa respecte obiectivul european de interconectare a sistemelor de transport la nivel european, mai ales ca asigura legatura cu toate modurile de transport", a declarat ministrul Transporturilor, Anca Boagiu. Potrivit acesteia, vor fi alocate fonduri europene de 150 de milioane de euro pentru interconexiunea intre aeroporturi. Sistemul informatic este conectat la toate cele 42 de Inspectorate pentru Situatii de Urgenta din tara.

Simulator de trafic aerian 3D, dezvoltat de Romatsa



In ceea ce priveste simulatorul, acesta a costat 120.000 euro si va putea fi utilizat de controlorii aerieni regiune in vederea pregatirii lor."Acest simulator a fost realizat cu 120.000 de euro cu solutii proprii, unul achizitionat din afara fiind evaluat la peste un milion de euro", a declarat Bogdan Donciu, directorul general al ROMATSA. Acesta a precizat ca simulatorul a fost proiectat de specialistii de la ROMATSA.

Baneasa airport to host business flights, low-cost moves to Otopeni


Baneasa airport is set to be transformed to host mainly business flight, said the transport minister Anca Boagiu. With a EUR 1 million investment, the airport will be reorganized: and most flights taking off from Baneasa will have a reduced capacity of around eight to ten seats. The airport will have dedicated terminals for general aviation and VIP. Other infrastructure works will accompany the transformation of the airport, such as the access infrastructure which would cover an underground subway station and parking places. Low cost flights are expected to be moved on the Otopeni airport.
