Hello, I posted this question , but nobody answered (perhaps nobody knows here ?):I read that finally Brasov airport will not be built ! Is this true ?
Any news about this project ?

The project at Brasov started. Now a local company is making the earthworks and perimetral fence. Later this month or next month the local authorities will launch the official tender for the airport.

Romanian Transport Minister Signs EUR39.5M Contract For Suceava Airport Upgrade

Romanian Transport Minister Anca Boagiu and Suceava county council president Gheorghe Flutur on Friday signed the contract for the Suceava Airport's modernization through the Transport Operational Program, a EUR39.5 million investment financed by the EU and the national and county budget.

Boagiu said the airport's modernization will create economic potential in the county and in the region.

Flutur said the contractor that will design and implement the project will be selected by March 2012. The modernization work will begin in September 2012.

Through the project, the airport's beacons and navigation system will be upgraded, the runway will be extended and a new control tower will be built. The project will receive EUR20.9 million from the EU, EUR9 million from the national budget and the rest from the county budget and the Suceava Airport Autonomous Administration.

The new departures terminal of Otopeni Airport will be inaugurated in July 2012




The new international departures terminal International Airport Henri Coanda - Otopeni, which will double the capacity of the airport, will be inaugurated in July 2012, said on Friday, Transport Minister Anca Boagiu, at a terminal site visits, according to Agerpres.

"The departures terminal will be ready in July 2012 and will double the capacity of the airport Henri Coanda", said Minister of Transport.

The new terminal will have 19,600 square meters, 52 check-in and eight internal gates for arrivals and departures. The cost is 62 million, funding was obtained from loans.

The new terminal creates the conditions for taking over the low-cost flights, and will handle over 70 percent of total air passenger traffic (5 million pax).

In 2011, Henri Coanda and Baneasa Airport will record about 7.25 million passengers, and the turnover of the two airports will be 115.6 million euros.

Low-Cost Flights To Be Moved To Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport In March 2012

Low-cost flights will be moved from the Aurel Vlaicu (Baneasa) airport to the Henri Coanda (Otopeni) airport in March 2012, Tudor Jidav, general manager of the Bucharest National Airport Company (CNAB), said Friday.

Yes, for TLV, Tarom requires no extra security checks in itself so the time to transfer should be 30 minutes or so.

Baneasa Airport opens business terminal

The Aurel Vlaicu – Baneasa Airport opened Tuesday a 1500 sq m terminal for business travellers, Mediafax reports. “This is a project we announced a year ago. The new terminal will be assigned to private flights, given from next March onward, Baneasa Airport will no longer host low-cost flights, which will be transferred to Otopeni,” Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said at the inauguration ceremony.

Some of the low cost airlines complained about the rising costs linked to their operations being transferred to Otopeni, where they say services are a lot more expensive. The terminal has two departure gates and allows for a passenger flow of 30,000 travellers a year. The investment was entirely paid out of the pocket of the Bucharest National Airports Company.

Baneasa really was an awful place to find yourself in, despite having the unusual perk for a LCC airport of being even more central than the main airport.

They are currently changing that. Baneasa was indeed an awful airport because it didn't go through upgrading works since the early 40s when it was built but after the current upgrading works, it will look more like a urban boutique-business aiport.

We do not have to much faith in this project, but things are now getting serious with Bucharest's third (private) aiport:
