Otopeni to have a new departure terminal next week onward

The new departure terminal at the Otopeni Airport will become operational next week, a 52 M euro investments,” Mediafax quoted Valentin Iordache, communications director, Bucharest Airports Company, as telling a press conference. “The new terminal will bring an immediate plus in the domestic flights area, since the existing terminal could no longer fulfill capacity demands. In a very short while, international flight passengers, too, will be processed there, Iordache said. The investment, which got started in the summer of 2011, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, Nov 6. In November 2011, former transport minister Anca Boagiu said that the nearly 20,000 sq. m terminal would open in July of this year. According to her information back then, the terminal has 52 check-in windows and eight passenger gates

New Otopeni departures terminal became operational
NOVEMBER 6TH, 2012 AT 9:00 PM

The project cost EUR 52 M, the funds coming from the Bucharest National Airports Company’s own sources, and was designed to meet the Schengen demands.

The Henri Coanda (Otopeni) Airport’s new departures terminal was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Transportation Minister Ovidiu Silaghi. “I hope Otopeni Airport will be a European one and the investment made here will prove to be one of the most profitable. Anyone that uses this airport should be able to say that he has arrived in Europe,” the Head of Government stated during the event. Construction works started in July 2011 and were finalized in a record 17 months.

The new terminal has several stores, restaurants and bars covering a surface of approximately 400 square meters. Likewise, the platform for auto vehicles and buses has been reconfigured and resized and the public parking lot has gained room for 244 vehicles.

The value of the investment stood at EUR 52 M, the funds coming from the Bucharest National Airports Company’s own sources.

The construction of the terminal is part of Stage III of the programme on developing and modernizing the Henri Coanda International Airport.

On the 19,600 square meters that were newly built the passengers and companies can use high-performing facilities and superior services supported by the latest technology and integrated into a modern and expressive design. The terminal was designed to meet the demands imposed by Romania’s Schengen accession, at the same time servicing all internal flights whose passengers have high class services at their disposal, including a VIP room located next to the boarding gates.

The new terminal doubles the airport’s capacity, adding another 52 check-in counters, and gives passengers the possibility of using 8 new “self check-in” counters.

The luggage control service uses the best systems in use, ensuring one of the highest security levels.

Starting today TAROM is moving all of its internal flights to the new terminal. On March 25 the Otopeni Airport took over Baneasa Airport’s low-cost flights, passenger traffic thus growing by 45 per cent inbound and by 30 per cent outbound.

TAROM is moving domestic flights to the new terminal from Henri Coanda Airport



TAROM will move from starting from Wednesday, November the 7th, all domestic flights to the new terminal of the International Airport Henri Coanda, the company announced.

Starting with 2012, November the 7th, passengers traveling on TAROM domestic flights are expected in the new Departures Terminal of Henri Coandă Airport for boarding formalities.

Registration operations for TAROM domestic flights will be held as follows: formalities registration / check-in Terminal Departures - counters 01-13, boarding formalities - Terminal Departures - boarding gates 50 to 57, located in the northern side of the terminal.

New departures terminal of Henri Coanda (Otopeni) will be inaugurated on Tuesday with costs amounting to 52 million euros.

They are refurbishing the runway currently. The internal and international terminals have been modernized earlier (in 2004 and 2008).

The existing runway is too small and does not allow larger airplanes to come to Cluj. The new runway will cause the addition of new routes, including the possibility of transatlantic flights. The traffic through Cluj Airport will grow significantly after the completion of the new runway, and probably Cluj will become an alternative to Budapest for many living in NW Romania and in NE Hungary, because many Romanians and Hungarians from the area will now be offered more routes which were not operated before except by Budapest.

Next year a new section of A3 motoway will probably be opened, at the same time with the new runway, which will increase the airport's utility in the region.

International airport at Brasov-Ghimbav

The contract for construction works to the runway of the Brasov-Ghimbav international airport was recently signed by the County Council and the company Vectra Service SRL, the winner of the respective tender.

After the completion of the runway, next year, authorities will also launch a tender for the construction of the terminal, in which foreign companies already expressed an interest, according to County Council president Aristotel Cancescu, quoted by realitatea.net.

The runway will be 2,850 metres long and 45 metres wide, and the works will start next spring. The CJ official added that the first planes will land here two years from now. The construction price of the runway is EUR 12.7 M plus VAT

Craiova airport was inaugurated Tuesday, December 11, 2012

The airport in Craiova (southern Romania) was inaugurated on Friday after it was modernized and rehabilitated with funds from the Dolj County Council (CJ), which made it possible for the airport to be opened to international flights too both in the daytime and at night.

Attending the above-mentioned event, Premier Victor Ponta said that the airport in Craiova could be regarded as a foundation stone for what will be the region of Oltenia as all the counties, people and businessmen in the area would benefit by the airport that was inaugurated on Friday.

'I am hailing this event I regard as a foundation stone for what will be the region of Oltenia. A region Romania needs as it needs all the other regions, which will also exist constitutionally concurrently with next year's amendment of the Constitution, a region that needs these basic elements for it to exist: an airport ... a project all Oltenia's counties will benefit by,' said the Prime Minister.

According to chairman of the Dolj County Council Ion Prioteasa, the Dolj CJ invested about 10 million euros in the airport, in building the five-storey air traffic control tower, in modernizing the arrival and departure terminals, in equipping them with internationally standardized security devices, waiting rooms, green areas, administrative and commercial areas.

Manager of the Craiova airport Mircea Dumitru said that the inauguration of the airport took place on the very International Civil Aviation Day, an occasion on which they also opened the SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) Aero Centre in Craiova.
