- Baia Mare Airport (also called Tăuții-Măgherăuș Airport, BAY)
- Oradea International (OMD)
- "Delta Dunarii" Tulcea (TCE)
Just a sugestion. You might want to replace Satu Mare (SUJ) airport, which is nothing but a internal destination for Tarom, with Oradea (OMR) which has recently entered in a large rehabilitation phase, after which is will be able to carry international routes carries by Wizz Air, in coordination with nearby Debrecen airport (they will not both have the same destinations). I think it has a larger potential and regional importance.

So instead of SUJ, it will be OMR? As for Craiova, I'll find a way to include it in the list.

In the title, yes. That's the way I see it. SUJ and BAY apart from Tarom flights to Bucharest are absolutely useless, they have no future prospects, as there haven't been any plans for their modernisation. OMR's strategy states that after modernisation they are supposed to acommodate more WizzAir flights (or maybe another low-cost carrier?).

Craiova is also worth it, it's seen a big rise in passenger numbers, thanks to WizzAir, which introduced a variery of destinations.

Henri Coanda Airport ranked No. 4 among European airports with highest air traffic growth
11 Aug 2015, 16:06

Quote:
Airports Council International ranked Henri Coanda International Airport of Bucharest Europe No. 4 among the airports having recorded the highest growth of the air traffic in the first half of 2015, in the group of the airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers a year.

The top three airports in this group included Milan-Bergamo, Porto and Glasgow, with Budapest ranking 5th.

The National Bucharest Airports Company (CNAB) recorded more than 4.217 million passengers and 52,116 flights (landings and take-offs) at Bucharest's International Henri Coanda 'Otopeni' Airport and International Bucharest-Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airport in the six months as compared to last Jan.-June, thus setting the prerequisites for hitting the 9-million passenger mark this year, CNAB said in a release.

According to it, Henri Coanda Airport accounted for the bulk of such traffic, with 4,215,314 passengers and 46,426 aircraft movements.

The evolution of the number of passengers at the two Bucharest international airports significantly outdoes the general European trend of 4.5 percent. Aircraft landings and take-offs at Bucharest airports also grew and passed the 2 percent European trend. Thus, the number of aircraft movements at the two international airports in the first six months was up 8.7 percent from the same period last year.

Operating at Henri Coanda International Airport at present are 31 airlines, which fly passengers to 70 destinations. Two new airlines began operating at Henri Coanda Airport in 2014, Ryanair and Air Baltic respectively.

CNAB began functioning in Feb. 2010 and it provides the operating coordination and management of the two Bucharest airports. CNAB was set up by the merger of the companies that managed the two Bucharest airports — Henri Coanda and Bucharest-Baneasa respectively. AGERPRES

Airport in northern Romanian city of Suceava closes down for EUR 23 mln modernization

The airport in the Northern Romanian city of Suceava has been closed down for renovation, under a EUR 23.3 million investments program. The airport should be re-opened in fall this year, after the runway is completely demolished and rebuilt.

Initially it was planned to keep the airport open during the upgrade but, given that would have prolonged the renovation, it was decided to shut it down.

The modernization process will involve three distinct projects, one of which is financed by Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration Romatsa and will include installing the air control equipment.

Another of the projects involves modernizing the runway using EU money, and a third will see the airport building upgraded, with cash kicked in by the County Council. Work will be carried out by company Tehnic Asist from Botosani county.

Local authorities have started talks to increase the number of flight operators at the Suceava airport, to cover more foreign destinations, and to attract more tourists to the area, which is the gateway to the famous Bucovina region.

Romania’s Iasi Airport opens new terminal after EUR 11 mln investment

The Iasi Airport will inaugurate this week a new terminal which involved an investment of EUR 11 million. The new building covers 3,600 sqm, has six check-in offices and will have a maximum processing capacity of 320 passengers per hour.

The work on this terminal began in March last year. It will become fully operational starting October 25, after all the airlines install all the necessary logistics.

The Iasi Airport will also introduce two new destinations, starting this winter season, namely Munich and Paris.

Building the new terminal has been part of a wider project financed by the European Commission, worth EUR 56.7 million. It also involved the extension of the boarding platform.

Iasi airport has new terminal. EUR 11m investment

A new terminal was commissioned on Iasi Airport on Saturday, after a EUR 11m investment. The airport management informed that a new flight to Istanbul would be operated from Iasi, apart from those previously announced to Bucharest, Paris, London, Rome and Munich.

The new terminal is 3,600 square meters, has six check-in offices and will provide a processing capacity of 320 passengers per hour. The works at the new terminal started in March this year, with a EUR 11m investment provided by EU funds.

There will two more terminals, but they will be small-sized.
The airport management estimates the traffic will reach 350,000 passengers by the end of the year, while exceeding 500,000 persons as of 2016.

The head of the airport’s managing board, Marius Bodea informed there will be a new flight from Iasi airport to Istanbul, operated by Tarom, starting December 9.

The management says the new terminal will get completely functional on Octomber 25 when other flights will be set up to Bucharest, Paris, London and Rome, operated by Blue Air and to Munich, operated by Tarom.

“Three years ago, we had only one external flight on Iasi Airport to Vienna, now there are 14 flights, and things are changing with an amazing dynamics. The flight to Istanbul is very important, as Istanbul struggles to become the second airport in the world in terms of traffic, after Atlanta airport in US. Practically, this way, Iasi will be linked to the world,” Marius Bodea said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several hundred persons, local and county officials, lawmakers, institutions’ heads and locals.

Bucharest Airports has a chance to surpass 9 mil pax this year.

More people pass through Bucharest’s airports than last year

Quote:
About 7 million people transited Bucharest’s two airports in the first nine months of this year, up by 11.4% compared to the previous year.

The most intense activity took place on the Henri Coanda International Airport whereas the Baneasa Airport, which is mainly used for private flights, recorded only about 4,000 passengers. The number of takeoffs and landings on both airports amounted to almost 82,000 during this period, up by 6% compared to the same period last year.

In 2014, the total number of passengers who transited the airports in Bucharest reached 8.3 million, and the number of landings and takeoffs totaled 102,000.
