Just remember that Stadio Olìmpico was an athletics stadium before it was a football stadium as well. No need to get rid of the track just to appease soccer fans.

Plus the fact that Rome hasn't given up on bidding and hosting for another Summer Olympics. So that stadium would be the centerpiece of a renewed bi.

They would bid for another Olympics with a stadium which is more than 70 years old???? Are you joking? If Roma succeeds in hosting Olympics again they should build another brand-new stadium as a main stadium.

The current Olimpico cannot serve as a main venue for Olympics however nice it is renovated! It's too old to host Olympic.

You have no reason to object to getting rid of the tracks and turning Olympico into football specific stadium. The current Olympico with ugly athletics tracks is of help to neither football nor Olympics.

Exactly. And it's called "Olimpico" because it was built for the 1960 Summer Olympics, held in Rome.

they would do a complete renovation.. the stadium would be brand new but keep the feel of the old stadium.. have you ever seen soldier field?.. take a look they could do that to the olimpico

So there will not be any Lazio stadium.

Besides I have been to Rome's Olympic stadium for a match and it was not too bad. Great atmosphere.

I went there once and it had more people than seats. I had an allocated seat and the only way I could get to a spot to watch the match was using sheepdog tactics to clamber over the Roma supporters.

So yes, it gets sold out alright. But that was a derby.

Maybe so, but...uhmmm, LA's Memorial Coliseum was built for the 1932 Olympics, and worked superbly in 1984. Barcelona's Montjuic stadium was also something from the 30s, and it worked beautifully in 1992. So what are you talking about?

The stadium was constructed in 1937 and was renovated in 1990 fir the FIFA World Cup held that year.

Italian Wiki has a small text concerning the reduction of seats:

From what I understand its because of improvements in safety and substitution of seats (they new ones probably take more space as IHaveNoLegs already said).

Yeah, that sounds weird:/ Now, the capacity of the stadium is just 72 000 and it's hard to get used to it.

But hey, the average attendence on Roma's games has decreased significantly so maybe there is no need for a bigger stadium.

Sir, if Rome bids for another Olympics, they cannot build a new stadium because it would end up being a white elephant. A city can have a stadium with a track be the main stadium no matter how old it is as long as it is not falling into disrepair or closed for an extreely long time. And I am not getting rid of the track and converting it into a football-specific stadium. If either of these things happen, a Rome Olympics would look messed up.
