I think the work is on a slow mode right now .. may be they ware waiting for some indicators or teh monsoon but the fundamentals of teh company is not bad and I don't think they will back down from such a huge investment .. may be they are focussing on their other projects right now .. I hope this thing is done quickly !!!

The small minions will get Jailed, But the Big Don (Sharad pawar) will remain scot-free to perpetuate more scams.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ow/8871751.cms Since 2008, the Mumbai Docklands Regeneration Forum, comprising naval experts, former bureaucrats and urban planners, had warned that the Mazagaon container terminal project is flawed and impossible to implement. It said the project stinks of a real estate deal as it involves filling up of the two docks, which will create 55 acres of land mass in the sea. The contiguous land mass will add up to around 350 acres. "In case it fails, the authorities will open up the land for property development," forum members told TOI. However, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had strongly supported MbPT's plan despite the state government's objections. (Look carefully, if there is even a whiff of land becoming available somewhere, Sharad Pawar will be somewhere closing in on it). On April 1, 2009, Jaisu Shipping was awarded the Rs 380-crore dredging work for the terminal. The tender condition stipulated that it must complete different stages of the work within six and 24 months. However, according to information procured by the forum, barely 30% to 47% of the work was finished till April 2011. MbPT has already paid Rs 251 crore to the contractor. "The project has exposed the incompetence and bad judgment of the port authorities," said retired vice admiral and forum member I C Rao. Recently, MbPT generously extended the completion date to September 2012, but experts warned that the contractor would never be able to attain a depth of 16 metres at this spot as planned by the port authorities to allow big container ships to come into the new terminal. A dossier prepared by the forum titled 'A container terminal for Mumbai port in the 21st century? A flawed project' said dredging to a depth of 16 m off Cross Island is not viable. "Even if it is done, today's main line container vessels need a depth of 19 m. Siltation after the first few monsoons will halve the depth at the berth to 8 m and ground the ships." "We have been saying since 2008 that the dredging tender was flawed," said Rao. "The berthing basin work was to be completed within six months by October 2009. Till date, only 47% of it has been finished. The turning circle and approach channel work was to take 24 months and be ready by April 2011. However, only 35% of the work is complete." Rao said partial dredging done till now will be reversed by resiltation during rains because the slopes provided are grossly inadequate. "The 55 acres of land mass created in south Mumbai might be appropriated for real estate development," said urban planner and conservation architect Pankaj Joshi. Three years ago, the forum, chaired by former chief secretary D M Sukhtankar, had procured a detailed feasibility report on the proposed terminal from MbPT under the Right to Information Act and concluded that it was "doomed to failure". "We tried to prevail upon them not to go ahead," he said. Last year, Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh wrote to the shipping ministry that "constructing a container terminal in the heart of Mumbai does not appear to be a wise move from the point of view of decongesting Mumbai or improving its ecological condition". Sources said there were no takers for MbPT's dredging tender, which was postponed four times since April 2008. Three bids were received in July 2008 from Van Oord (the Netherlands), Jaisu Shipping and BPL-BBC JV. "Due to flawed and highly unrealistic tender requirements, Van Oord and BPL-BBC were disqualified on technical grounds. One can only surmise that the tender conditions were defective. Yet, the single tender bid of Jaisu Shipping was processed for award of the contract," said the forum dossier.

![]() Reposting image here for the benefits of mumbai forumers (thanks to vadditwice naturally) for digging this out). Bravo!! Reinforces the view that the monsoons are possibly the cause for go slow- I'm guessing when they fill in the foundation and the project rises above the ground level - monsoons wouldn't be that much of a factor? |

That's right.....But I am not sure if we can really trust what DB realty says....maybe they are lying to keep their investors intact with their projects....But honestly, I hope they are right about the situation.

Usually construction slows down considerably or comes to a halt during monsoon, its just a sad fact since its difficult to work when its lashing down with rain.
