For all the negative nancies out there, I had a call with a DB rep earlier today and the mood out there within the company is fairly positive.

Here are the relevant parts, all of which align with the quoted DB official in that news report. Nothing related to the tower's status has been edited or omited.

If you're wondering why he didn't give me a timeline or specific date, then think about it - the rep is bound by company policy to not reveal critical information to some unknown caller. If you were in his shoes, would you?

The fact that he didn't just disconnect or refrain from answering can be taken as a positive sign?

Secondly, the Wolff crane is still at the site. If there was a slight indication that the project was heading towards the coffin, L&T would have long packed up and used it as some other site.

I sincerely hope that the crane is not taken away. This building's renders are truly magnificent to be discarded. May good sense prevail.

India also does not have oil wealth to throw into "visionary" projects nor a near-dictatorship to implement its whims and fancies! Real estate in India operates mostly according to the market, as it does in mature markets in North America and Europe and has to contend with the vagaries of a democratic system of governance and an often activist citizenry. This means that we will always have few Towers of Babel around, which in the end is a very good thing!

Exactly. I'm quite pleased that Manmohan Singh has better things to do than build 1km tall towers just for the heck of it.

Do these huge towers get fully occupied?

Is Burj Khalifa completely occupied now?

dont compare mumbai to dubai

mumbai has a shortage of premium hotels rooms. Dubai i dont know.

Skyscrapers emerged as a solution to location and space constraints and an economic way to pack people in a small area.

the entire concept of a skyscraper is missed if you build in the middle of no where. Thats whats happening all throughout the middle east. Skyscrapers for the sake of it rather than them making economic sense.

One thing mumbai does have is severe space issues. Skyscrapers therefore are a natural fit for this city. I think i read back on average builders now a days need to pack 50 apartments per acre to make a healthy profit. Only solution is build upwards.

This was not I wish to convey. My thoughts were some cluster with tall buildings (not necessarily 1 KM tall). Just building hapazord buildings in an area sorrounded by low-rizes and narrow roads, does not look good. Atleast if there was a rule to rebuild a whole area of 100 meter radius, that could have worked.

Even better would have been building supertalls with architectural importance having Indian architecture. Just look at ancient India how many things of architectural importance were built ? There is nothing built of that sort after independence. Akshardham temple in Delhi is one of the exception, but I want some tall buildings of architectural value.
That was what I meant by Vision.
