South Korea’s Kolon Group and Azerbaijan’s largest conglomerate Asersun Holding Group signed a memorandum of understanding on a magnificent project, dubbed Dream Island.

The presentation of the project was joined by Azersun President Abdolbari Goozal and Kolon Group Chairman Lee Woong-yeul. Abdolbari Goozal said the Dream Island will be a high-end multi-purpose town with a presidential guesthouse, Azerbaijan’s first golf course, town houses, trade centers, an international university and a hotel on a 300-hectare location in Bina, the suburbs of the capital Baku. The project is estimated to spend $2 billion, according to ballpark calculations. The project with a seven year timeframe will start in October this year. Lee Woong-yeul added that the project will give further impetus to the economic growth in Azerbaijan and implementation of other grand projects.

Dream Island Project in Baku, Azerbaijan

The Korea Valuation & Consulting teams have been appointed by KOLON E&C to conduct a feasibility study of a mixed-use development in Baku, Azerbaijan (Dream Island Project). The total site area is approximately 21.3 million sq. ft. with provisions for a golf course, club house, office, retail, a low-rise villa, a high-end residential development, a hotel, an International School and Guest house for the President.

Baku on list of three green capital cities of Europe in 2010

Quote:
The Azerbaijani capital city has received a status of a European capital under the next nomination for 2010.

According to sources in Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the UN Environmental Program declared Baku the European capital of environmental protection for 2010. This status was also provided to Italian Genoa and Swiss Geneva.

The ministry considers that this decision was caused by the successful implementation of environmental programs by the authorities of the country.
