Warsaw Has been a spiritual center for Jews for centuries-but that does not make it a Jewish city.Anyway I promise -will not add any more word in that discussion.

It makes Warsaw multicultural (if I get you right about the Jews) - why be ashamed of this? The exceptionality of Lviv is its unique combination of the various cultures making it simultaneously Ukrainian, Polish, German/Austrian, Jewish, and Armenian - that was my point.

1. Lviv was founded by Ruthenian (Ukrainian) King Danylo Galytsky in 1256. Lviv was named after Lev І, the eldest son of King Danylo Galytsky. When Lev І inherited power, the city became the new capital of the Kingdom of Ruthenia. The golden lion on a blue background was depicted on the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Ruthenia (or Kingdom of GaliciaľVolhynia), from the second half of the 13th century the golden lion on a blue background is part of the coat of arms of the city of Lviv. The Poles have no relation to the founding of the city of Lviv.
2. The oldest churches of the city were built by Ruthenians (present-day Ukrainians).
3. The highest bell tower of the old town was built by Orthodox community of Ukrainian Assumption Church (with the help of the Orthodox Greeks). The Poles are not related to the construction of the highest bell tower of the old town.
4. St George's Cathedral, the city's largest temple, was built by Ukrainian Uniate community.
5. Ukrainian patriot Ivan Levinsky was the largest contractor in Lviv in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It's foolish to compare the history of Lviv and Danzig. More than 90% of Germans (98% of German-speaking) lived in Danzig before the start of WW II, although formally the city was not part of Germany. More than 90% of Poles have never lived in Lviv. At the maximum, only 50,4% of Poles lived in Lviv. BTW, present-day Polish city of Chelm and city of Przemysl can be considered the Ukrainian cities. These cities were part of the Kingdom of Ruthenia. In 1914 in the Chelm Governorate lived 912,000 inhabitants, of which 50,1% Ukrainians and only 30,5% of Poles.
Many people forget that in the late Middle Ages Lviv was largely German than the Ukrainian or Polish. In the 15th century, the Lviv Magistrate used the Saxon dialect of German. In 1527 a terrible fire destroyed almost the entire medieval town.
I agree that the Poles have made a significant contribution to the development of Lviv but I don't like when the Poles understate the contribution of other nations to the development of the city.

Pidhirtsi Castle (Ukrainian: Підгорецький замок; Polish: zamek w Podhorcach) is a residential castle-fortress located in the village of Pidhirtsi in Lviv Oblast (province) western Ukraine, located eighty kilometers east of Lviv. It was constructed by Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan between 1635–1640 by order of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski, on the place of the older fortress. The castle was then part of the Kingdom of Poland and it is regarded as the most valuable of palace-garden complexes in the eastern borderlands (Kresy Wschodnie) of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth

less romantic/more realistic picture:

Any more info about the building from Skała Podolska nad Zbruczem a.k.a. village Skala-Podilskyi, Ternopilska oblast? There was a palace which is in ruins since war, time when soviets started to occupy this part of Poland for years now but it is not the one from this picture and to be honest the one posted doesn't look as legit castle but more as some sort of historical'ish reconstruction...

Picture of the Skała's palace I was aware of:

I can't wait to finally travel to Ukraine! I was just across the border when in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, and can't believe I never ventured across. Ukraine looks so beautiful, that I'll have to next time for sure!
