Bregman+Hamann Architects set up Delhi shop

Quote:
No stranger to the international scene, Toronto’s Bregman+Hamann Architects now is exporting its services to India.

The firm, which already has overseas offices in Shanghai and the United Arab Emirates, is setting up shop in the city of Delhi. Senior associate Anil Rawat is relocating to oversee Indian operations.

B+H is thought to be one of the few North American architectural firms to open an office in that country.

“There are a few American, European and Japanese practices there,” said partner Paul Gogan. “But they tend to be commuters. We are establishing a full-time presence and making a commitment there.”

The 54-year-old firm gained its first exposure to that market four years ago, as part of a consortium pursuing airport projects.

“We didn’t get the commission,” Gogan said. “But the experience cracked the door open a bit for us. It gave us a sense of what was happening over there, what the opportunities were.”

At the moment, B+H is in the midst of master planning developments on 50-acre and 150-acre sites near the city of Haridwar, about 300 kilometres north of Delhi, for motorcycle manufacturer Hero Honda Group.

The larger site will accommodate 3,300 housing units, an 80-bed hospital, an 80 to 100-room hotel and shopping facilities. The smaller development, located near a Hero Honda plant, will provide for housing and a strip mall.

The master plans have been submitted to the local planning authorities for approval.

“Hero Honda has also asked us to do the detailed design of each component,” said Rawat, newly named director of the company’s operations in India.

While final costs have not been determined, the two developments will cost “in the millions of dollars,” he said. The sites are located about 17 km apart.

B+H also has been retained to design corporate headquarters for developer Ansal APL on a 10-acre site in the town of Noida east of Delhi. The project is part of a larger 2,500-acre development.

Land use yet to change for Noida integrated city site
Lalit Kumar & Ambika Pandit | TNN

New Delhi: The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority’s (Noida) ambitious plan of an integrated city right behind Sarita Vihar may have gone public through a tender notice issued in newspapers recently, but interestingly DDA is yet to change the land use of the proposed site.

The site is reportedly meant for a freight corridor and a wholesale market in DDA’s master plan. Ten percent of the land is under Metro.

According to sources, since the land technically is in Delhi, the change of land use can only be done by DDA. Interestingly, on December 16, DDA had brought out a notice in the newspapers regarding the change of land use and sought the general public’s objections and suggestions on the same within a month.

As the process for land use change goes, after the one month period for seeking objections and suggestions ends, the various views will be studied and put up before a board of inquiry for scrutiny and amalgamation. It is only then that the proposal for land use change will reach DDA for approval. If approved, it will then be sent to the Union ministry of urban development for notification.

Sources in Noida admitted that they had approached DDA to amend the land use. Noida chief executive Mohinder Singh declined to comment on the issue. But additional chief executive officer Sushil Kumar contended, ‘‘The land was with UP irrigation department but now it has been transferred to us. So we are free to do what we want. The master plan will be changed.’’ Asked specifically why tenders had been invited for a mammoth project, without the land use change, he said, ‘‘You see, sometimes we have to issue tenders three or four times and it is not at all unusual.’’ Meanwhile, questions are also being raised about why such a notice was issued at a time when the authority’s chairman, Lalit Srivastava, is abroad on some official work.

As this paper had reported on December 23, Srivastava confirmed that the land use of the site is yet to be changed and DDA had been approached. The proposed land is spread over about 350 acres and he agreed that its closeness to south Delhi will make the deal costly.

PSB plans Rs 50 crore campus in Noida

Gurgaon-based Pearl School of Business (PSB) is planning to set up a new campus at Knowledge Park, Greater Noida. The institute has already bought five-acre land at the proposed new location.

IM Pandey, director, PSB, said: “Currently, PSB functions as a full-fledged campus at Gurgaon and we intend to create a capacity of 500 students at the new campus. This will start functioning in 2-3 years. The proposed investment for the campus spread over 5 acres is Rs 50 crore.”

The institute’s current campus has a built up area of 48,000 square ft. The institute launched a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA), the first-ever doctoral-level programme in business administration, earlier this year, in association with the Asian Institute of Technology’s (AIT's) School of Management.

“The programme is a higher degree in business administration, equivalent to a PhD. The programme has been designed keeping in mind the senior executives. With the research competencies, one can turn the experience into useful knowledge of business and management that has direct relevance to business challenges in the emerging economies,” Pandey added.

SC okays night safari project in Greater Noida

Quote:
New Delhi (PTI): The country's first night safari is all set to come up in Greater Noida with the Supreme Court giving its clearance to the project, which shall be just the fourth of its kind in the world.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam allowed the application of Greater Noida Authority for the project which will be set up on a 102-acre plot at the Mursheedpur reserve forest adjoining the Yamuna Expressway.

The Greater Noida Authority has already tied up with Singapore-based Bernard Harrison, which has been instrumental in setting up night safaris in the Asian countries.

The safari, which is planned to be kept open from evening till midnight, would be home to mostly nocturnal animals, like leopard, hyenas and owls sourced from within India. It also plans to import big cats from South Africa and South American countries.
