Isnt the worli side ramp too low for high tide waters, particularly in the monsoon season?

That's the best they could do since the people living around the seaface area protested against any fancy interchange plan on that road (Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Marg). Besides if you look at that image in KB335ci's post, the water during high tide will come parallel (along) to the ramp. That way the water has no chance of directly reaching the deck.

there is an area around the ramp that has been cordoned off and the water pumped out. beyond that the ramp is much above sea level. there will be a pedestrian subway under the ramp to allow people to walk on seaface

hopefully a decade or so later this ramp will be broken down and worli sea face will be a nice place to go for a walk again

I dont think so it got lost. It looks like someone or some organization does not like freedom of speech.

It probably got deleted due to an accidental mistake (my guess) during the reorg process. While deleting another thread, this one probably got deleted accidentally. The database had been behaving peculiar. Unfortunately hard deletes are not recoverable.

Well friends i have been in touch with my friends at bwslp and i have some good news. Within 10days or so the Bandra Cable stay bridge is connecting the bandra approach bridge. So i guess by month end you wont get to see any gap on either sides of the Tower (pylon). This means when the last segment is lifted for hanging with cable stay. The gap between the bandra approcah bridge and the hanging segment will be still there as a construction joint. I dont remember the exact dimension but it should be around 500mm to 150mm, anything in between that. This construction joint will be present on both sides of the cable stay and will be filled by pouring cast in situ concrete. I guess HCC will be in PR overdrive to show how fast they have made up for lost time. I would like to give my congrats to the engineers and workers who work 12 hours a day per shift round the clock in the hot sun & chilly nights and get the work done right first time. For me they are the HERO's and not the publicity hungry minister who likes to come on news and get himself pasted on posters stating that his govt is doing a great job.

thanks EAW, that is truly awesome news. i am with you that the engineers and everyone who laboured on this bridge are the unsung heroes. i remember being in school in the mid 70s when i saw a mockup of this bridge at one of the police meet and greets. for me it is truly heartening to see this come to fruition.

Bandra-Worli sea link (to be!) extended up to Haji Ali

http://www.business-standard.com/com...Left=0&chkFlg=

Quote:
The Maharashtra government has announced the extension of Bandra-Worli sea link by another 3.6 km up to Haji Ali at an additional cost of Rs 1,200 crore.

While announcing the decision, State public works minister and chairman of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Anil Deshmukh expressed confidence that the much-delayed 5.8-km Mumbai sea link will become operational by January next year.

The bidding process for the project will be completed and work orders be issued for the extension project by the end of this year, he claimed.

The extension project will be carried out on a build-operate-own-transfer (BOOT) basis and the successful bidder will also have to buy out MSRDC from Bandra-Worli Sea link project.

The successful bidder will get rights to collect toll on both the sea links for next thirty years. The MSRDC is expected to incur a cost of Rs 1,640 crore on the Bandra-Worli sea link.

Nearly 78 per cent of the work of the project has been completed, Deshmukh said, adding the sea link would reduce the travel time between Bandra and Worli from present 60-75 minutes to 7 minutes when it opens up for public by January next year.

At present around 140,000 vehicles pass through bridge on the Mahim creek everyday, which is the only road link between the island city and its western suburbs. Once sea link is open for traffic, it will attract at least 80 per cent of the traffic from the Mahim creek.

The Bandra-Worli sea link, which was suppose to become operational by 2004, got delayed as project got entangled in litigation over environmental issues and resistance from local fishermen community.

After MSRDC assured to change the alignment, the project was cleared by the Supreme Court. The change in alignment and delays increased the cost of the project from Rs 400 crore to Rs 1,600 crore.

Deshmukh said the state government had to put the sea link between Worli and Nariman point on hold as only two bidders had come forward and finally only one bidder submitted the bid document.

The minister said various options like underground tunnel between Haji Ali and Nariman point, a combination of tunnel and sea link, and the extension of Marine Drive were being considered and the state government had appointed consultant to weigh the pros and cons of all the options.

The one thing I am worried about the sea-links is the security feature. Does anyone know about the security features (besides surveillance cameras) like car-scanning for any inappropriate materials in the cars at the toll booth for the bridge?

I don't like the idea of tunnel at all and it doesn't seem more feasible as well. Another sea-link like an extension/exit ramp from the BWSL seems more feasible and a better idea. The combination of the link-tunnel system won't work either.
