still there will be a signal on IRR which is good for those want to access shops under flyover and it is more than km length.

Traffic's piling up at nungambakkam high road(and kodambakkam high road) at peak hours is a nightmare.. Any solution to road connecting nungambakkam high road and RK salai like over bridge(i.e over anna flyover) or something? or straightaway plan a super duper flyover by demolishing existing anna flyover? Forgive me if i'm wrong.

I always thought fly overs should have been built in Nungambakkam High Road/ Sterling Road and Teynampet/Mt Road junctions. Looks like it's too late now.

Shouldn't the alignment used be opposite?

Hello SSC Chennai patrons, Anyone with information about the state of Porur Arcot road junction flyover? I had been to chennai beginning of the year (Jan 2012) and saw buildings demolished. Not sure if any construction has indeed started taking place. is it because of the monorail design finalization (if there is one such)?

No Porur Junction flyover delay has nothing to do with Monorail, everything to do with shifting of water pipelines. What I understood is the pipeline shifting is initiated but will be slow, so probably the construction will resume sometime next year. Again pls correct me if i am wrong.

Is working going on for shifting pipe line.. May be preliminary survey? I dont see any work happening now. Mount poonamalle road got heavily congested by DLF IT parks and surge in commercial activity. Even widening "Butt" road remains distant dream even after notification from govt. I think govt should really prioritize this projects.

Was there any notification by government on Butt road widening? What was it?

No the SP road fly over above LB road junction.. the fly over is used for traffic from Mandaiveli toward Madhya Kailash. But if that traffic takes the new fly over, then how will they take the flyover with out making the lanes bend right toward it??

They should have gone for a broader 4 lane flyover at the LB Road - Besant Avenue - SP Road Aavin Junction. Then it cold have been a 2 way flyover.

There was also a proposal to divert the traffic from the Santhome to Adyar Thir Vi Ka Bridge via Music College & Adyar Bank (behind Sathya Studio.

Now they are also demolishing the flower stalls near the bridge and so the road becomes really wider pto the Gate of Theosophical Society. They should also think of widening the service road that leads to Besant Avenue.

People from Sathya Studio end should take the left most lanes to go to Besant Avenue and people taking the fy over should take the right most lanes.

New flyover to link Tidel Park and Thiruvanmiyur

Quote:
The design for a grade separator at the Thiruvanmiyur junction, one of the longest in the city, was finalized on Friday by a committee.

Putting aside the earlier plan of aligning it along Lattice Bridge Road, the steering committee, headed by highways secretary Niranjan Mardi, decided that the flyover would run perpendicular to LB road, along Tiruvalluvar Salai and West Avenue Road. The grade separator will now start just after the bridge over Buckingham Canal near the Tidel Park junction on Tiruvalluvar Salai, cross the Thiruvanmiyur junction and land on East Coast Road (ECR) after taking a right turn.

“The cost of land acquisition would be higher on LB Road. Also, the road only carries local traffic. Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and ECR are used by people travelling out of the city. LB Road will get ground improvements,” said a highways official.

The earlier plan, to be executed by the Corporation of Chennai, was dropped for several reasons. The flyover on LB Road was to be 607m long, with a subway for 280m.

Since the corporation had neither the expertise nor the financial resources, the highways department took over the project to connect two of its premier roads. OMR flyover work to begin after state fixes alignment

Two other projects were also discussed during the meeting. These were the twin-flyover and subway project on the Poonamallee High Road in Anna Nagar and the skywalk to connect nine points, including the government general hospital, the Central station and the Park Town railway station.

Though the new alignment for the Anna Arch project is ready, highways officials are playing it safe. “Given its sensitive nature, the alignment will be finalized at a high-level committee meeting.Thiswilltakeit to the knowledge of the chief minister. Only then can we go ahead with our work,” said a highwaysofficial.

The alignment of the skywalk was left hanging. “We couldn’t get a concurrence from PWD and Southern Railway as no one came for the meeting,” said the highways official. Highways department officials also rued that police rarely attended these meetings. “All our projects makelifeeasier notonly for commuters and pedestrians but also for the police and for traffic management. They are the biggest stakeholders in these projects. Though we do traffic surveys before taking up proposals, their absence sticks out like a sore thumb,” said a highways official. “This is not the first time this is happening,” hesaid.

Some government bodies that constitute the steering committee are Southern Railway, Chennai Metro Rail Limited, Chennai Corporation, Metropolitan Transport Corporation, PWD and select non-governmental organizations like Chennai City Connect and the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy. For some projects, thedetailed project reports that look at actual costs and area of land to be acquired are prepared. If the detailed project report is already ready, government orders are issued within three months after the steering committee meeting.
