I thought that photo looked familiar. Its mine.

Construction of the bridge between phase I and II of the bypass expressway over the pml high road at madurovoyal is in progress. im not too sure if it is a full fledged interchange though. The expressway is coming along nicely, and the porur bridge is almost complete, tambaram maduravoyal should be completely 4 laned in a month hopefully.

Balance work at kathipara is going on but quite slow, another 2-3 months perhaps

OldNews:four-lane flyover at the Porur junction - the intersection of Mount Poonamallee Road and Arcot Road

source:http://www.hindu.com/2007/11/04/stor...0459620300.htm

please post the design of this flyover if somebody has...

Quote:
CHENNAI: The Highways Department will soon begin the groundwork for a four-lane flyover at the Porur junction - the intersection of Mount Poonamallee Road and Arcot Road.

Design for the flyover, to come up along Mount Poonamallee Road to facilitate speedy movement of vehicles between Chennai and Poonamallee, is likely to be finalised in a couple of months.

The project is estimated to cost about Rs. 36 crore, which includes land acquisition charges. According to officials of the Highways Department, once the design is finalised, tenders would be floated and land acquired for the project. The construction work is likely to commence by May next.

About one hectare would have to be acquired from private parties, as the road near the junction has to be widened for the flyover flanked by service lanes. The unmarked bus stop just before the junction would be shifted 100 metres ahead of the junction and a bus bay provided to expand road space.

The project was estimated to cost Rs.15 crore without land acquisition in 2005. It was among the six flyovers proposed for the city by the previous government. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) had expressed concern that several of them could clash with the proposed or future rail networks. With regard to the project at the Porur junction, the concern was that future rail networks along the radial Mount Poonamallee Road might be affected by a flyover at this location, CMDA officials said. The proposal was cleared by the CMDA following a decision that such projects could terminate ahead of the flyover or find other means for crossing the junction.

Flyovers are mandated for junctions where traffic flow crosses 10,000 passenger car units (PCU) - a unit of measure that expresses mixed traffic streams in terms of a hypothetical passenger car stream. The hourly traffic volume at peak hour at Porur junction has crossed 14,000 PCUs, officials said citing a recent traffic study.

As I indicated, this photo was taken from WikiMedia while searching for Kathipara junction. I thought this kathipara junction. I am not sure, whether it is maduravoyal or kathipara.

Traffic regulations at Kathipara from Saturday

Staff Reporter

To facilitate work on the flyover in the area

Chennai: New traffic regulations will come into effect on Saturday at the Kathipara junction, as per the requirement of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to facilitate work on the flyover in the area.

A press release from the Traffic Police said under the new regulations vehicles coming on Mount – Poonamallee Road from Porur bound Guindy should take Butt Road up to the DPO Road and take the right turn at Paul Wells Road.

These vehicles would then cross below an arm of the flyover and move towards Guindy under the pillars 10 and 11 of the flyover.

Vehicles bound for Inner Ring Road should take the free left turn at the junction of IRR and Paul Wells Road.

Two-wheelers coming on Mount – Poonamallee Road towards Guindy may take Paul Wells Road from the junction of McRennett and proceed straight to the IRR without going via Butt Road and DPO Road, the release said.

Not sure if the flyover at Porur will come up. Govt. has grander ideas- You may get an elevated corridor from Porur to Ramapuram ( 4 kms). Tenders for DPR have already been released - http://www.tenders.tn.gov.in/innerpa...nu12019&work=1 . There is every likely hood that this corridor is connected to the Chennai By-pass as well.

Usman Road flyover to be opened in July

http://newstodaynet.com/newsindex.ph...0&%20section=7

The work on the construction of a flyover at Usman Road- Doraiswamy Road junction at T Nagar in Chennai would be completed by July this year and be inaugurated by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

A statement quoted Mayor M Subramaniam announcing this at a press meet after inspecting the ongoing construction work at the junction.
.
The construction undertaken at a cost of Rs 19.80 crores in September 2007 was nearing completion well before the scheduled time period of 15 months, he said.

The work of constructing 24 pillars for this 781- metre long 11- metre wide flyover had been completed. The pillars would occupy 500 metres of road space and the flyover’s descent would 281 metres long.

It would facilitate two-way flow of traffic and reduce congestion at this junction to a considerable extent. Residents of T Nagar, West Mambalam and Saidapet would be greatly benefitted by this flyover, the Mayor had said.

One more flyover at the Thirumalai Pillai Road-Gopathy Narayana Road junction at a cost of Rs 16.50 crore would be completed by December this year, the Mayor further said.

Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni, zonal committee chairman K Elumalai, chief engineer (construction) K Balasundaram, supervising engineer (bridges) M Ramamoorthy were present during the inspection by the Mayor, the statement added.

Kathipara update

source:http://www.hindu.com/2008/05/19/stor...1953370500.htm
Quote:
....
The NHAI authorities also reviewed the progress of the grade separator work at the Guindy-Kathipara junction, which was being closely monitored by Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu. While one portion of the grade separator has been thrown open for road-users, the officials feel that the clover-leafed grade separator work would be completed only by August. This means a further postponement of another three months. The officials say that this work has to be carried out without stopping vehicular traffic. Furthermore, there were other contractual problems and an increase in the cost of construction materials.

While the Minister wanted the Guindy-Kathipara grade separator work to be completed fully before June 3, coinciding with the birthday of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the NHAI officials have conveyed their inability to fulfil his request since a major link work of the grade separator is yet to be completed.
