HSBC plans to increase mainland jobs by 2,000
2006-08-14 19:20:51 Xinhua English BEIJING, Aug 15 -- The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp will add 2,000 jobs on the Chinese mainland as its business operations expand under freer trade rules, the banking giant said yesterday. HSBC will hire 1,000 new staff members annually in 2006 and 2007 as part of its expanding investment in its network and personnel, Richard Yorke, chief executive officer of HSBC in China, said yesterday in Shanghai. HSBC currently employs more than 2,400 people on the mainland, among which more than 95 percent were recruited locally. The banking giant expects to be operating more than 30 outlets on the mainland by the end of this year, up from its present 24, Yorke said. The lender will focus on Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangdong in developing personal financial services to better tap demand from local residents. The country is set to fully open its banking sector at the end of this year under its commitments to the World Trade Organization. "We look forward to the full market opening by the end of this year and have made further investment in people and network," Yorke said. "The year 2007 will be an important year for our retail banking business, as we will be permitted to expand our renminbi services to domestic individuals. We are paving the way for this to be an important area of HSBC's business in China's mainland." Banks from home and overseas are vying for the US$1.9 trillion in household savings in the mainland whose economy expanded 10.9 percent in the first half of this year. HSBC is also interested in the mainland's securities market but declined to provide details. "Our overall objective is to be a 'universal bank' in the mainland, where we already have a presence in commercial banking, insurance and asset management," Yorke said. (Source: Shanghai Daily) |

Hynix, ST to raise $750M for Wuxi fab expansion
Posted : 17 Aug 2006 Hynix Semiconductor spokesman said the company plans to raise the funds by the end of June 2007, which will be used to ramp up memory wafer production lines in its Wuxi, China fab. The joint venture company would receive funds from 19 Chinese-based financial institutions, including the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the spokesman said. The funds are part of a longer term project to push for investments totaling $2 billion for the Chinese subsidiary, according to the company. Established in 2004 as a joint venture between Hynix and STMicroelectronics NV, Hynix-ST Semiconductor currently produces memory chips on 200mm diameter wafers. The investment will be used to expand 200mm wafer production capacity and set up a chip production line based on 300mm diameter wafers. The spokesman added that Hynix-ST Semiconductor aims to ramp up its production capacity to 20,000 wafer starts per month units on the 200mm line by the end of 2006. - Sean Shim EE Times |

Why there aren't any more China-related forums in SSC? For two reasons:
1. Not enough chinese. 2. The true name of these forums is (or should be) DSSC....DubaiSSC

Too little participation at the Chinese subforum. Most Chinese are in other Chinese speaking forums, that's the reason.

Please don't fill up threads with articles like that, noone is going to read through all those, there should be one or two articles in a thread followed by discussions about those articles.
I think if more Chinese got involved in the forums and there was some really good, informed discussion then more subforums would be added to the Chinese section. I'm really interested in things going on in China and would love to see a big, active Chinese section of SSC.

Last edited by wigo; October 26th, 2006 at 02:57 AM. |
