Old beauty that needs some facelift.

Been last week in Sofia and loved it again. Vibrant, big city, loud prom kids, good wines, great fish, parks, open air exhibitions, grand buildings, Vitoša still has snow on top, Šumensko on a hot day, cool people. Still a lot to be done, of course, but the only think I’d change immediately are those little streets around Pirotska – perfect to be refurbished and transformed into a pedestrian zone. Think it would add a charming touch to the city.

I'd be glad if they are refurbished but unfortunately I'm rather sceptical about that area - actually this place is getting packed with shady people, criminals, illegal emigrants, junkies, etc. Pirotska certainly has a bright future, but the tiny streets north from it....blah. Did you see the Women Bazaar BTW? You'd better not. However things may change with the rennovation of central railway area and the women bazaar....hopefully.

Defenetely there is A LOT of work to be done ... We all want Sofia better but everything changes so slowly... As regarding Pirotksa - check out my comment from several weeks ago when i took the photo series of it. We actually think the same.

Yes I browsed all area there - shady a bit at the moment but it can be changed in short time if some money is pumped in. I really think the location has its potential, it's central, nice rather narrow streets, crafts, shops, cafes, market, not too high buildings. Its all there.

Well do it so next time I stop by I can stay and have my drinks there :P

Actually I stumbled by accident in Pirotska area - was looking for a St Joseph church and little by little discoverd the area and instantly liked the atmosphere.

Very nice shots. I didn't expect Sofia to have this much old architecture.

What you see here is what's left of it. Sofia was damaged significantly during WWI and II

Cheers Kampfi

as zzbit noted, there were going to be a lot more old architecture ansambles preserved if the Allies didn't bomb heavily Sofia during the WWII

Some photos I've taken today in the area around NDK and CCS.

Some renovation works on the tram way on "Cherni Vruh blvd." and "Bulgaria blvd." going on...
