Southwest will have one daily flight from DCA to AUS. Airtran has 12 daily flights from DCA that eventually will become Southwest.

It's not often that BWI beats Dulles two months in a row. There's a possibility this could be a new trend if Reagan keeps gaining services as have recently been announced, at the expense of Dulles.

Also if anyone's interested, it seems that United is bringing back a 757 on one of the BWI-Houston flights several days each week this summer. Continental once did this one summer but it feels like many years ago.

Something else to look forward to in July: Condor flight starts up July 2!

There are a handful of new air service announcements from DCA including commencement of Virgin America to SFO. I posted this info on the IAD /DCA thread.

Baltimore Sun article about how the $100 million expansion of C Pier and the main terminal between B and C has started construction:

Quote:
BWI begins $100 million project to upgrade oldest part of terminal
Work to streamline passenger screening, access will be completed by next summer
By Candus Thomson, The Baltimore Sun

5:12 p.m. EDT, June 11, 2012

Work has begun on a $100 million upgrade of the oldest portion of BWI Marshall Airport to streamline security screening by allowing passengers to move among the three busiest concourses without having to pass through security a second time.

Airport officials say widening Concourse C — in the 60-year-old central section of what was once Friendship International Airport — will allow them to expand the number of security lines from six to nine. It also will permit the replacement of magnetic-resonance screening machines with larger advanced imaging devices like the ones already used on concourses A and B.

. . .
Rest of article is here: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bre...0,418639.story

If anyone could be on the look-out and start snapping up some photos of the construction, that would be appreciated! It feels like it's been a really long time since there's been any significant construction on the terminal.

Was Air Force One at BWI on Tuesday? Footage on WJZ showed him boarding it after his visit to Baltimore.

It was here...the first time a sitting president has flown on board Air Force One from BWI.

For those interested, there is currently an Antonov An124 sitting on the deicing pad near the end of runway 28. It may be visible from the park however I have not looked.

What...no pictures? I'm disappointed!! Where did he board? In the air freight area? And I'm sure everything was put on hold until he took off.

There was a picture on the BWI Facebook page...I, however, was FAR away from the airport as it was my day off

He boarded from a remote part of the airfield and air traffic was held when he departed.

New Airline for BWI

No, not Condor which began flights from Frankfurt yesterday, but Spirit. Yes, the ultra low fare, ultra low service, airline announced that it will begin flights from DFW to BWI in September.

It will be interesting to see how Southwest defends their turf.

I think with baggage and seat fees, their prices match SW.

I guess the rumors proved true. Here's the schedule:

Dallas/Ft. Worth – Baltimore eff 06SEP12 (Schedule till 27OCT12)
NK202 DFW1325 – 1725BWI 32S D
NK667 BWI1020 – 1235DFW 32S D

(from the airline route blog)

A post on Airliners.net suggests that Spirit may also do a double daily service to Fort Lauderdale by the end of the year.

Any photos or news about the Condor flight? Apparently they're advertising on the DC Metro as well.

The same Spirit Airlines that's charging you $100 to carry on a bag this fall?

Is there a way to find out how well the Condor flight is doing on a regular basis?
