I had the same thought about half way through the thread
This was a stellar collection. Philly looks amazing. It appears as though there is very much a culture of being outside in Philly; something that doesn't seem to exist in America as much as elsewhere in the world.

you could see the roof of my old house in the first shot! Philadelphia has always been a great city. It's been off the radar for too long.

Geez I am homesick now......What a gorgeous place. Philly has held onto something...it's soul, can't say that about many other big US cities. No other city in the US is that large and intimate. Philly literally hugs you.

...Well, that's a nice surprise for me...I always thought that Boston was the second largest city in the USA east coast!

This thread needs more recent shots. The Comcast Center is completed now. In some of the photos it hasn't even been built yet!!

Wow! What a surprise! The city looks beautifull and it seems there´s a lot of street life going on, not very common in most american cities.
The city looks like a mix of Boston and New York

I mentioned this is in another thread but I had a layover at Philly airport so decided to take the train to downtown. I was a bit reluctant, fearing a lifeless, boarded up CBD. I was however pleasantly surprise to find it very much alive, happening and interesting. It was an interesting mix of new and old, such as the impressive town hall standing right across shining skyscrapers.
It appears to me that Philly downtown has a sizeable population that actually lives there. I noticed lots of shoppers, folks having lunch at sidewalk cafes, strollers/sunbathers in urban parks (the weather was amazing) etc. It turned out to be quite different from what I expected. The rail link between airport and downtown is convenient although a bit expensive (i think its $14 round-trip)? |

People expect Detroit and find a mini-Manhattan. This happens a lot. Philly has a bad rep. |

Probably the nicest set of Philly pics that I have ever seen! Really stupendous. I love the simple Georgian rowhouses... do you call that style "Federal" in the States?
