Moving to Vancouver as an Architect
Hi there
Im coming to live in Vancouver for a year this summer. I'm an architceture graduate from Glasgow, Scotland and was hoping to find an interesting firm to work for while im in Vancouver. Can anyone suggest interesting small to medium (30 people max) non commercial firms that would provide an interesting expirience and are focussed on high quality design? Any help would be much appreciated |

Ramsay Worden Architects is pretty nice - see if they have opening positions.

Helliwell + Smith Bluesky Architechture do some really high end, residential projects with an emphaisis on "green" - i.e. green roofs, geothermal heating/cooling etc.

Make sure that you can get licensed as a professional architect very quickly...talk to all the companies you apply with.
A lot of immigrants with credentials have waited for months and years getting their licenses. Good luck.

We are sometimes interested in hiring. Of course we're located in Kelowna. about 5 hr drive east of Vancouver. However there is always a trade off.... The style of Architecture is much different here than in Vancouver. Less of an emphasis on classy design here, not as glamorous of projects, mostly multi-family housing. The flip side is though is that there is MUCH less stress in the workplace....so ...what is worth trading off...well that is up to you. There is so much work in British Columbia that you don't have to look long to find a good position....
