trapdoor at anything that rustles nearby e.g YOUR HAND.

someones gonna to get surprise:

the Pitohui, the world's only poisonous bird, discovered in Paua New Guinea.
Its skin, feathers, beak and claws are toxic

Sheep killing parrots of New Zealand, the Kea.
Known to attack weak and sick animals, also known to fly at them
and cause them to dash themselves off cliffs, farmers claim up to
500 sheep can be killed in a season by these birds.

Cassowaries, the worlds most dangerous bird

up to 6ft tall and armed with a lethal spike on its feet, it will strike out when provoked.
The last person to die was a teenager taunting an animal that sliced him open from neck to belly:

dont mess

dinosaur!

Great Gray Owl
constantly pissed off bird

Old Native American legends call them ghosts

I kid ye not, these are real

Ive been told its a long nosed gar, a big kind of fish in the Souther States of the US.

Right, hereby presenting...

The box jellyfish - there are 19 different species

The worlds most venomous creature, said to be the greatest pain one can inflict upon a person. In breeding seasons millions of these things suspend their tentacles through Australian waters forcing thousands of beaches to close - and believe me you wouldnt want to go swimming. 5,600 people have died since 1950.

There are up to 60 tentacles 3 metres long on each one of these suckers. The slightest hair trigger will shoot tiny harpoons into your skin that pump out the venom - a substance so toxic it dissolves human flesh via the arteries, and hits every pain receptor in your immune system.

A researcher describes being stung very very slightly. Whilst holding a jellyfish inside a bucket, one of the tentacles was drooped over the edge of the slop. As the researcher walked the tentacle swayed and just touched his hand. He said that tiny hair touch was like someone holding a red hot poker to him and not moving.

Eyewitnesses describe the death of an unfortunate swimmer who jumped in the sea ignoring the warning signs. Within seconds they heard an inhuman scream, the man was frothing and having a fit. They dragged him out and he had passed out from the pain - he had been stung all across his torso. The paramedics took a while to arrive to the deserted beach, and took him to the city, where he died later in hospital.
...But get this, he was screaming the whole time, on the beach, through the ambulance ride, on the operating table - unconscious. Not moaning, screaming.

survivors are scarred for life

I found an old National Geographic book from 1989 and it claimed that the aye-aye was extinct. Had they not been seen for ten years then been rediscovered? I didn't even think it was even rare, let alone endangered.

It's a Bolivian Pus Caterpillar. Under all that fur are a bunch of highly venomous spines, which means that if you touch it you can say hello to coma-land.

Wow, amazing creatures. David Attenborough needs to step up his game now and start filming these freaks instead of boring aminals like wildebeest and orangutan (kidding obviously).

I suspect one or two of them might be a hoax though.

Jesus, this thread puts me off visiting anywhere exotic. Probably wouldn't see all these creatures, but big poisonous spiders are enough. Good thread though, introduced me to a lot of the planet's rather grimly interesting creatures.

To add a truly interesting, although not exactly freakish, creature, here's the Lyre Bird:

Having the ability to imitate any sound, natural or artificial.

.... and now they are attacking innocent Minnesotans.
