Christ, why did this person create such great pieces of architecture such as Granary Wharf and Princes Exchange, and the cheapness of Sky Plaza and West Point? It's a shame his work was not consistent.. (though I'm one of the few, probably only person, who doesn't think West Point is hideous)

£££ Princes Exchange and Candle House were high quality developments and had much higher budgets than Sky Plaza (per sq.m). No architectural practice will want their buildings to look tacky... developers wanting the lowest common denominator to maximise profits unfortunately means cheap looking buildings. It's sad to see so many jobs lost, there were some highly educated and creative architectural staff working on the buildings that have already been highlighted. They should find new jobs considering the portfolio of attractive projects they've worked on. All the best to them. |

Every practice needs their 'bread and butter' stuff............ work is work, all the average stuff pays for the fancy design schemes and loss leading work. Carey’s at one point was such a massive monster that some directors just had own their mini practices, would Mr Carey and Mr Jones care about the lesser stuff when the easy fees were rolling in and filling their pockets with cash!! |
