looks like they wont follow this one. This is titled as "PRE-project". only they know what it means.

The second intercontinental renderings are very close to initial rendering in the very first post. looks like that one will be built.

Hope they won't choose the 'bee hive like' design, provided they have sense.
That one rendering in the 1st post is simply amazing.

Now the Westin Hotel website says that the opening date is 1st July, 2011. Does anybody have any idea whether the construction work has started or not?

Personally, I have not very good idea about the new town area. Sometimes I go through new town and see new u/c sites. Not sure exactly where it should come.

Saraf, if Westin is the erstwhile Shristi Intercontinental, then i am happy to inform that it is U/C since I have seen lots of cranes in the site. Look out for MFAR billboards and you have Shristi. The site location is opposite to the "lake" in Rajarhat

CAUGHT IN A DEADLOCK
Supply row stalls 5-star hotel project

Suman Chakraborti | TNN

Kolkata: First the recession, and now tussle over who will supply building construction material. With contractors belonging to some political party or the other fighting each other to supply building construction material, it is the real estate developers who are facing a tough time to finish their projects by the deadline.
Work on the five-star hotel project that Shristi Infrastructure Development Corporation is implementing in New Town, which would be the biggest hotel project till date, has got halted for the last four days due to tussle allegedly between two rival CPM groups — one from Jatragachi and another from Ghuni village in Rajarhat over who would supply building construction material.
“Work has stopped unfortunately due to the tussle between two local groups who supply building construction material. We want the problem to be sorted out as soon as possible so that we can carry on work,” said the company’s head of planning and development, Shankar Mukherjee.
The company officials have already approached housing minister Gautam Deb and local CPM MLA Rabin Mondal, who have been overseeing these issues and the local CPM committee member, but the dispute is yet to be sorted out.
Company officials resented the unexpected delay. “It had taken around two years to get the building plan of the hotel sanctioned by the Hidco authorities. Besides, work has been hampered time and again for about six months due to this tussle between the groups over who would supply building construction material,” Mukherjee said. The earlier deadline of the project was by 2008.
Mondal, who is the chairman of the project felicitation committee that has been formed by Hidco to look after such disputes, said the particular case of Shristi’s hotel project has been discussed and sorted out. “The dispute with that particular case has been sorted out and we have asked the material suppliers to resume work,” he said. Mukherjee, however, said they did not know when work could be resumed.
Mondal, however, conceded that such disputes over building material supply was occurring in Rajarhat for quite some time now. “Whenever such disputes occur, we sit with the parties to sort out the disputes,” he said.
Shristi’s hotel project — the foundation of which was laid in 2006 — will be biggest five-star hotel project, not only in Rajarhat but the entire city. The hotel will be of 42 floors with a helipad on the roof. The hotel coming up on five acres on Action Area-II will have 200 rooms. The project cost has been pegged at Rs 250 crore.
The tussle between rival groups of CPM over this issue was always there and the problem increased after the Lok Sabha election when workers with the local Trinamool Congress also started demanding that developers will have to take material supply from them. Earlier, Rosedale Gardens complex — the upcoming biggest housing complex for NRIs in New Town’s Action Area-III, faced a similar problem. After the Lok Sabha election, a group of the local Trinamool Congress started demanding that the authorities will have to take building material supply from them. Work was hampered for some days after which the Hidco authorities sorted out the issue.
Hidco officials said the people engaged in material supply are mostly the landlosers from whom Hidco had taken land to set up the township. “There is a cooperative for landlosers where they are trained so that they can lend the manpower required for such projects,” said a senior official.
but fortunately the good news is that the project is very much on..

It is very much on; and this situation should be temporary. I think it is time our media does not whack their brains too much and draw conclusions. By doing so, they mess with key facts. The hotel has more than 300 rooms and land area is probably more than 5 acres.
