As per the hotel website - The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat will be opening December 1, 2012.

And the renders posted by India101 from Cervera & Pioz website could be the one. They also have the same rendering here

http://www.shristicorp.com/images/sh...vestor_ppt.pdf and also in the Telegraph - http://www.telegraphindia.com/109102...y_11664634.jsp

I would differ a bit on that. It is around 3km from DLF IT park and even closer to the commercial CBD coming up AA2 comprising Unitech, Ecospace , Tata hospital amongst others. If you are talking about the immediate vicinity of shops and public transportation, then I am not sure it will affect the hotel in any way. It still is within 10 mins from Sector V and 15-20 minutes from the airport making it the second closest 5 star from the airport.

Indian deal proves sky’s the limit for Lightstep
By Lindsay Fergus
Tuesday, 8 June 2010

Lightstep Technologies has secured its first installation in what is set to become India’s tallest building.

The revolutionary evacuation system, developed in Northern Ireland, will be installed in the five-star Shristi Hotel in Calcutta.

Work has already commenced on the 150 metre high building, which is due to open for business at the end of next year.

The hotel will have a wrap-around shopping and entertainment arcade with a mix of live entertainment, dining outlets, speciality retail and state-of-the-art cinemas.

Although the Dunmurry-based firm has not divulged any financial details, it is believed to be a multi-million pound contract.

The lucrative deal came on the back of a distribution agreement with BCL Secure Premises, part of the giant Shristi Corporation in Delhi.

The agreement gives BCL Secure Premises exclusive rights to sell the Lightstep system and suite of products throughout the Indian marketplace. Kieran Patterson, executive chairman of Lightstep Technologies said: “Last week we had our first site meeting regarding the installation of our technology into the Calcutta hotel. It will be our first major installation anywhere in the world in what is being billed as the ‘safest hotel in the world’.”

Award-winning Lightstep Technologies also has other orders in the pipeline spanning the next three years including a major deal within the mining industry.

Mr Patterson said: “The distribution deal with BCL is really opening up markets that we would not have been able to reach without that partnership.”

Lightstep is also working on new products to add to its existing intelligent LED light technology range which includes Pathfinder, Stairfinder, Hallfinder and Doorfinder.

Nicholas Watts, international marketing director for Lightstep Technologies, stated: “Geographically this is a key strategic agreement. It gives us access to a market serving 1.2 billion people, within a rapidly growing infrastructure. It has helped deliver part of our marketing strategy to create a global presence.”

Mr Patterson added that the team in Belfast was committed to making this new agreement hugely successful for all involved. He said: “It is fantastic for the economy to have a company such as ours to buck the international trends and reinforce real global opportunities that still exist despite the economic downturn. The company’s order pipeline confirms that such opportunities do exist.”

Great news indeed. Just to correct the sentence - its not "India's tallest building" but "tallest hotel in India"

Abhishek and Sourav, it would be great if either of you could post a construction photo of the Westin hotel

thank you very much Suncity and Abhishek.

Actually I felt relieved when I saw this pix.

I don't know why there was a question mark in my mind whether this is going to be built or not as many hoteliers have withdrawn their projects from Kolkata.

(ghar porhah goru........ bhoy paay)

now that fear is vanished

The first tower will be the Westin Hotel and the second tower will be called the The V Service Residency

Home with helipad at Rs 3.5cr

http://www.telegraphindia.com/110080...y_12742396.jsp

Quote:
A rooftop helipad to welcome your guests, the “Rolls Royce of Starwood Grand Spas” in your bionic building, an impregnable blast mitigation system — serviced residences coming up in New Town, Rajarhat, are promising Calcutta a new high in luxury living, all for a neat Rs 3.5 crore each.

Titled The V Service Residency, the property comprises fully serviced, customised condominiums in the league of the Ascotts and JW Marriott serviced apartments.

“The serviced apartment tower will rise 142 metres from the ground, but have only 32 floors, housing 96 luxury lairs,” Sujit Kanoria, the managing director of Shrishti Hotel Pvt Ltd, the developers, tells Metro. The project is expected to be complete in two years.

Concept-designed by Javier Pioz, an expert in bionic architecture, The V units are being sold only by word of mouth to an “exclusive club” of city residents and NRIs. The realtors are confident of a sell-out by the Puja.

“This project has created huge interest in the real estate trade as it has taken New Town pricing to a different plane. Compared with the current average pricing of Rs 3,200 (per sq ft) in New Town, The V is selling at Rs 8,100 by dint of its unique product positioning and this has taken the trade by surprise,” says Abhijit Das of property consultants Lemongrass Advisors.

“The V will usher in a new dimension in safe living. Designed by security advisers from Israel and the US, we will have a unique emergency rescue system, along with a fire protection and prevention system, as well as a blast mitigation design,” adds Kanoria.

The “first bionic building in the country”, The V will seek the platinum level of LEED (Leadership in Environment Engineering & Design) certification, “the only residential building in the country to do so”, according to Ash Bharj, the director (sales & marketing) of Shrishti Hotel.

An example of sustainable eco-design, bionic architecture creates spaces that maximise the use of existing natural resources and minimise energy consumption.

“Our design seeks to mimic the forms of nature and embrace technology,” explains Pioz.

The luxury Westin hotel next door, being developed by the same group and among the tallest in the sub-continent, an amphitheatre, a kids’ play zone and pool, a pergola, the health club run by Westin and The Heavenly Spa will be the other standout features at The V. At the City Walk next door, premium international brands will be wrapped around by sidewalk cafes, landscaped plazas and evening entertainment.
