I'm sorry but the thread title still bugs me. Does anyone know where that 676' figure came from? Both DOB filings and CTBUH list this tower as 656'.

Does the DOB list heights to the highest floor or to the very top? There's your answer.

I know that, but 676' is pretty precise. There must be a source ...

Moinian's Huge Rental Tower Tops Out

Wednesday, December 3, 2014, by Zoe Rosenberg
Quote:
MIDTOWN WEST—The largest rental tower under construction in Manhattan will celebrate its topping out today. When finished, Moinian Group's 1,174-apartment building at 605 West 42nd Street, formerly known as Atelier 2, will stand 60 stories. 235 of the apartments int he building will be earmarked as affordable. The building is slated to be complete in 2015.
I guess it's not really T/O by SSC standards.

from 30 Park Place. Atelier 2 is on the left, just about to pass the Silver Towers.

The Silver Towers were 653' when they got completed in 2009. Then I read somewhere that they are actually 660' according to new CTBUH measurements (like Trump Chicago).
And btw this building has not T/O yet (same case with 432 PA when T/O was celebrated although two parapet floors were missing...).

Totally agree - The masonry faced 'scrapers are or at least were a symbol of NYC and unique to the U.S. These glass boxes can be seen anywhere these days from Dubai to Djibouti, nothing unique or special about them. The old buildings only get "brown" with patina and come up a beautiful golden creamy colour when cleaned - they look stunning!

You love that phrase don't you... even though Dubai has like one glass box and there's none in Djibouti

I can imagine 500 years ago some Europeans hating gothic cathedrals because you could find them anywhere in Europe from Braga to Brasov.
