New tender for the motorway in May 2012

Quote:
18.7.2011 14:00:00 | Author/Source PressCut

The Ministry of Transport of Montenegro published that the activities regarding the construction of the motorway Bar-Boljare are carried out in the planned dynamics and experts of the European Investment Bank, who will control the project documentation, are expected in September.

The new tender for the construction of the motorway could be invited in May 2012. Speaking about the model of construction of the motorway, it was stated that the Government of Montenegro would continue insisting on the construction of the motorway through the model of public-private partnership because similar capital infrastructural projects in Europe and the world are successfully build through that model.

Chinese not giving up on the motorway

18.7.2011 13:48:00 | Author/Source PressCut

According to Chinese Ambassador to Montenegro Zhi Zhaolin, companies from China will not give up on the motorway Bar-Boljare. He added that Chinese companies are still intensively communicating with the Montenegrin side on the construction of the motorway in Montenegro.

Zhaolin said that Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro Andrija Lompar stayed in China a few days ago and talked to Chinese companies and banks on the construction of the motorway. He said that it can be expected that those talks would have positive effects on the cooperation in the construction of infrastructural facilities in Montenegro.

We already lost 4-5 years, so another year won't make much of a difference.

Hello montenegrin SSC forumers! I intend to visit MNE this year and among other routes I would like to go along the Piva Canyon to Scepan Polje, and in return to make a loop through Mratinje, Brljevo, Stabna, Pluzine, again E762
to Nevidio Canyon and Skakavica fall.
Can anyone tell me if there is a country-road between Mratinje and Stabna (see the map below)? If yes, it's practicable in difficult weather conditions for a SUV?
Thanks in advance!

Good news for everyone driving to Montenegro - while still not 100% confirmed, it looks like the hated eco-tax that up to now had to be paid upon entry into the country, will be scrapped starting next year

Does it actually pay for anything 'Eco' or does it just go to the general government money pot?

Since it was introduced in 2008, some 25 million euros in eco-tax money were collected...eight million euros last year alone. According to the media report, a portion of the money was used to build a couple of small sewer treatment plants, waste storage facilities, environmental clean-up at a mine facility in northern Montenegro, etc. So, there have been some benefits.

Still, its said that the eco-tax has caused more harm than good.

Many people thought it was a bribe at first.

Its interesting, bribing is actually not that widespread in Montenegro, as in some other countries, EU members even, such as Hungary, Bulgaria, etc.

Of course, police salaries may be higher in Montenegro than in those countries.

The way they collect it at the border is a bit odd, it's not at an official booth or anything but a guy with no uniform wandering around the waiting cars knocking on windows and asking for EUR10 in return for a windscreen sticker.

They have some beige/khaki or whatever shirts, mostly with a badge on it, but they truely look unofficial, bearded and often unkind. So no wonder there have been a lot of complaints against this "tax".

According to a fresh TV report, Montenegro's longest road tunnel, Sozina (4,189m) , sees around ~10,000 vehicles daily...during the last two months, more than half a million vehicles passed through, bringing in a road toll bounty of ~1,84 million euros. Annually, some ~7 millon euros is collected. Year on year, passenger vehicle traffic is down ~4% but truck traffic has seen an increase, resulting in a small rise in collected toll money...

To my experience the worst bribery happens in Bosnia&Hertzegovina and Serbia as far as the balkans is concerned... Croatia a little bit too... Only countries I have not been asked for bribery as yet are Slovenia, FYROM, Kosovo and Albania. Good thing about Montenegro and Serbia is that you can make a deal with them for as low as 5 Euros.
