I tried to go off city's size and importance. Charlotte is above New Orleans and Tampa in my list due to it mainly being one of the bank capitals of the United States if not the world.

It's only a matter of time now.. Everyone remember the "What's the most Cosmopolitan city in the South?" thread??

(not in any particular order)
Dallas
Houston
New Orleans
Atlanta
Nashville

Just to name a few that pop in my head.

Top 5:

Miami - big city, diversity, skyscrapers, trade, finances, tourism, fashion, tv/movies
Houston - big city, finances, oil, medicine, space center
Atlanta - big city, finances, large airport
Dallas - finances, oil
New Orleans - finances, port

If you rank the top 10, you're basically naming all the southern cities.

You are full of it! No way Rural Retreat, VA should be that high! I put it at #8, TOPS. Possum Neck, MS should be a few spots higher.

1. Atlanta
2. Dallas
3. Houston
4. Charlotte
5. Miami

Since we're just listing whatever, my criteria was busiest southern airports by plane movement. Memphis and Orlando were honorable mentions but I couldn't find a deep enough list to list 10 southern cities.

Edit:

For those of you curious to see the numbers, Atlanta had 994,346, Dallas had 684,779, Houston had 603,836, Charlotte had 522,541, and Miami had 386,981 plane movements in 2007. They were the only southern cities to make the world's top 30 last year for plane movements. I mention Memphis and Orlando as honorable mentions because Memphis is obviously a monstrous cargo hub and Orlando is a major tourist airport.
