Thanks cityrider!! Great updates of probably the most eagerly anticipated project in the city..

And the machine in the first pic is definitely a foundation drilling machine so looks like they are already past the stage of soil testing in that area..

Chennai-Ennore rd to be widened

Chennai: The Chennai-Ennore High Road (Tiruvottiyur High Road) in north Chennai will soon be rid of traffic congestion. Widening of a fivekm stretch of the two-lane state highway, from Tondiarpet Toll Gate to Ernavur Gate, to a fourlane road is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The Rs 10-crore project is progressing and the highways department is now laying the median on the road. Official sources said the road, which has a width of 20 feet to 30 feet, would be made into a 60-feet wide road to tackle the increasing vehicle movement.
About 50,000 vehicles ply on this road every day and congestion gets compounded mainly due to the movement of trucks and lorries. “Steps are being taken for early completion of land acquisition and shifting of Metrowater and electricity lines so that work can be speeded up,’’ highways department sources said.
Many people in the area said widening of the Chennai-Ennore High Road was a long-pending demand of the residents of Tiruvottiyur, Ernavur, Kathivakkam and Ennore.
“The road is too narrow and traffic jams are a daily ordeal here, particularly during morning and evening hours. As there is no space for overtaking, vehicles pile up whenever a heavy vehicle on the road or an MTC bus stops at the bus stop,’’ said Arjunan, a motorist. “The road has now become highly accident prone. Even crossing the road during peak hours is a big risk. Traffic situation worsens when lorries or buses break down. Office-goers and school students are the worst sufferers during peak hours,’’ said Muthu Kumaran, a resident in Theradi area.
While the road-widening project was originally planned in August 2006, Tiruvottriyur municipality has urged the highways to complete the four-laning soon.
Many traders in the area said the road could be widened only by 40 ft and not 60 ft as it would affect a lot of shopkeepers. But the state won’t change the plan to make it a 60-ft road.

Feb. 11: The work on the Rs 405-crore, phase 2 of the Chennai bypass project connecting Madurovoyal and Madhavaram is nearing completion and in all likelihood would be thrown open to public by June this year, according to NHAI officials.
The project is being implemented in two phases to interlink all the four national highways – the Grand Southern Trunk Road (NH 45), the Chennai - Bengaluru road (NH 4), the Madras Tirupati High Road (NH 205) and the Chennai - Kolkata road (NH 5) – around the city and minimise traffic
congestion within the city limits.
An NHAI official said that the work on the 13-km long main carriageway from Maduravoyal to Puzhal via Ambattur industrial estate and Pattaravakkam has now been completed. Even though three-km long elevated corridor in the estate has been completed, it would be opened to the public only after the completion of entire work, the official added.
The official said that the grade separator coming up on the Chennai Bypass-Poonamallee High Road junction in Maduravoyal is at the advanced stage of completion. “The grade separator will have four loops for vehicles proceeding from Tambaram to Koyambedu, Poonamallee to Tambaram, Puzhal to Poonamallee and Koyambedu to Puzhal. The work will be completed by April.”
“As far as the railway over bridge at Pattaravakkam is concerned, it would be completed by May. Though the irrigation department has agreed to give permission for the alignment of the project crossing the small canal near Madhavaram, we are still waiting for an official letter from the department,” the official said.
Apart from vehicular subways provided in seven locations, including Ambattur, Red Hills Road and Surapet, to enable motorists to use the arterial roads, the NHAI has also planned to provide one more subway at the Canal crossing near Madhavaram. “Once the project is completed, vehicles coming through GST Road can reach NH-4, NH-5 and NH-205 without touching the city roads,” an official said.
Some Good News now!!!!!!!
Along the Chennai Bye-pass -The grade separator at Maduravoyal is now partially opened to traffic - oneway from Ambatur towards Porur Toll plaza for the past few days. Great relief for users like us -even though it is only partially.

For the stretch from near Porur to Irumbuliyur in the chennai bye-pass-they are charging Rs 30 for an approx distance of say less than around 20Km-which seems to be somewhat high when compared toTBM Dhindivanam, ECR & Chennai Bangalore highways;
Inspite of high toll, the road lacks maintanence & that the road surface is very wavy resulting in bumpy drive.

Detailed feasibility report approved for expressway

http://www.hindu.com/2010/05/05/stor...0554300100.htm

CHENNAI: Despite protests by fishermen and residents, the proposed elevated expressway between the lighthouse and Kottivakam, ECR, is making progress. The steering committee of the State Highways Department has approved the final Detailed Feasibility Report and steps for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) that would facilitate tendering have begun.

Compensation and rehabilitation and necessary Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approvals will be addressed in the DPR, say officials.

Hai everyone!
Great news after a great news;
This grade seprator at Maduravoyal is now cleared for the opposite direction too;
but
the flow from Ambatur towards Porur is calm & clearly defined
whereas
the one from Porur towards Ambatur is yet to be streamlined at both the ends;

Nice to travel in that new bridge-which avoid the difficulty in cross-over with poonamalle high road;

Chennai ByPass Road

Does anyone know if there is a way to enter or exit this Bypass road from Ambattur? If yes, where are they located?

[QUOTE=TechCity;20622861]source:http://www.cmdachennai.org/outerringroad1.html

ORR is starting from ECR. which point it is starting in ECR? where it is crossing OMR? Where it is touching Velachery - Tambaram road? Where it is dosconnecting from Velachery - Tambaram Road? is it travel via Madambakkam - Vandalur junction?

what is the status of Medavakkam - St thomas mount 4 lane process/ is it kept in cold storage? can anybody give the detailed map?

Is Velachery - Tambaram 6 lane process is underway? What is the status of the project now?

What is Tambaram Eastern Byepass? Is it starting from Kamarajpuram on Velachery - Tambaram road? Is it going via Madambakkam to Perungalathur/ vandalur?

is Tambaram eastern bypass is passing in the same route of ORR ? Tambaram eastern byepass is a part of ORR? can anybody give detailed map of Tambaram eastern byepass and ORR in the eastern side of Vandalur to ECR.

All are talking ORR from Vandalur to Minjur, where we are blind on ECR to Vandalur!.
