I think wrong thread.
There is a Chennai Elevated Tollway being built on Poonamallee High Road between Maduravoyal and Koyambedu. Is it part of the Port Maduravoyal expressway or the Ennore expressway?

wow! then chennai had India's first expressway well before Mumbai-Pune or Ahmedabad-Baroda or Delhi-Gurgoan.

Ennore Expressway name is being used for at least more than a decade or two.

The road was broad with two working lanes and two (unannounced Service Lanes) rather Parking Lanes.

Sea Erosion and encroachment spoiled the whole expansion and no political party had a strong will to clear and rebuild the expressway.

There were factories even on the eastern side of this Expressway. They all are under water now.

It will be nice if both the Port Maduravoyal and the Port -Ennore Expressways meet each other at Pier 10 with interchanges to facilitate seamless movement of freight

Also if you see this link in SSC

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...774966&page=11

It talks about the EMRIP the Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project and development of the Port Expressways. There was some talk in this thread about constructing a bridge over Ennore creek to minimize the time taken to travel from Ennore to Minjur or Ponneri. Also this thread talks about connectivity to NH-5 as part of EMRIP

153 bus route roads re-laid

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle2107642.ece

Work on eight roads deferred to facilitate stormwater drain construction

The Chennai Corporation has completed re-laying of 153 bus route roads (BRR) under the Special Roads Programme 2010-2011. However, work on eight roads, including a BRR, has been deferred to facilitate improvement works by the Chennai Metrowater and construction of stormwater drains.

New Boag Road in T. Nagar is one of the roads where the re-laying work has been deferred. Over 96 km of BRR and 49 km of interior roads have been re-laid under the programme.

Of 112 interior roads covered under the Special Roads Programme, which was announced after the northeast monsoon last year, the civic body would be able to complete 105 roads by the end of this week, officials said.

Work on seven interior roads that were part of the programme, including Mahalakshmi Street in Kodambakkam zone, Manickam Maestri Street and Joni Jhon Khan Road in Nungambakkam zone have been deferred because of improvement works in stormwater drain in the area.

The civic body had completed re-laying of 137 of 154 BRR before the announcement of the Assembly elections.

Resistance to re-laying of the remaining roads by residents in various localities of the city led to suspension of the work by the Corporation in March. The work resumed after elections and the roads covered under the Special Roads Programme have been re-laid at a cost of Rs.35 crore by the civic body. The government had sanctioned a grant of Rs.60 crore for the programme.

That's good news. Even if 8 roads have been deferred, atleast the others are being done.

I wonder if they are actually relaying the roads. Only the rain-induced potholes were filled on the road where I live (which is a bus route road). Now it's a patchy ride.

Don't they strip the road pre monsoon and then relay them ??

The relaid roads in my area (alwarpet-royapettah) are super smooth. Wonder if this is the new standard set by coc or if its because amma stays in the neighbourhood?

pretty sure it's the second reason. I have always seen roads in the core city area smooth, and marked with lines and zebra crossings. Whereas in Ashok Nagar even the IRR is bumpy (but that may be due to Metro Construction and the associated truck movement)

Those roads were relaid just before the election, and quite a few roads in different parts of the city were relaid to a similar standard at that time, so I doubt if it could have been due to the location of Jayalalitha's home..

This is Kolkatta Highway at Red Hills!

Looks they undergo more pain than GST.. volume of trucks handled by this road should be way high than GST of NH 4.
