Some take the cash and leave, some could be moved to another location (maybe) but I think the whole purpose is to redevelop the area. Although the project is yet another residential complex, its better than the messed up blocks currently existing. I think its easier to govern as well with the new residentials.

Usually in these kinds of renovation projects they are given an apartment in the new complex to live in, and sometimes a second one to rent out. The apartments aren't 100% assigned to the previous owners so there is some additional market rate apartments being built, as well as all of the totally new commercial space. So its a densification and an economic upgrade. For those concerned about losing these traditional type of neighborhoods, at least in the Pearl River Delta, they are literally everywhere and not going to disappear totally anytime soon.

That's good to know. If everything stayed the same there wouldn't be room for progress.

Nice to see some cladding added to the building.

The cladding looks really really good. The only thing is that the structure including the X-bracing won't be visible since the tower is not transparent.

I think construction on this, and many other Chinese skyscrapers, was halted for a couple weeks for Chinese New Year.
