How about the area with all the low-rise between the sports stadium and the skyscrapers visible in the first picture? Will that be developed into skyscrapers?

nothing will likely happen because if a developer wants to renovate this area, it will cost like thousands of millions dollar to buy all the buildings that esist in it. this place is the center of Guangzhou and not everyone in that block is willing to sell his/her apartment. it won't work even if only one refuse to sell.so it's almost impossible.

Thanks for the reply, but I thought that's not how things work in China. Doesn't the government own all the land, and just forcibly move people for the sake of new development (while giving compensation)?

Do you know if the buildings in that area are new and expensive, or shabby old ones. That might give an indication of whether it could be developed. It would be nice to see the park extend all the way from the river to the sports stadium near CITIC plaza.

Yes, only when the area is on the list of the "renovation area" of government that it will be forced to a demolishment by the city Gov. There are 104 places on that list but not this one.
Actually it's not old or shabby at all. it's built in the 1990s and it's quite nice there. The Zhujiang new town was planned in 1993 just the moment after the block's been built, so it was too late for them to plan and too expensive for them to change.
here's a picture photoed in 1988, you can see there's nothing there

and one photoed in 1998 almost in the same angle and then you can see that block.

but, maybe after a few decades there wil be a new list and ```lol

Maybe they plan to make a park there, that would be a very good idea.
