Road to Thirparappu

Photos clicked on the way from Marthandam - Thirparappu. This shows rapidly changing road infrastructure in KK dist. most of the major rural interior roads are being converted to two lane.

I think these are part of Marthandam Pechippara state highway

Ganapathiyankadavu bridge

This bridge changed geography of this region. Prior to construction of this bridge some 5-6 years ago, people travelling from Nithiravilai/thoothoor to Puthukkadai/Tengappattanam/Colachel and beyond has to circle via Kuzhithurai bridge.. 20 kms more distance.

This bridge was constructed as part of WCR (West Coast Road) from Pazhaya Uchakkada(TN/Kerala Border) - Kanyakumari.

View of Thamirabharani River from Ganapathiyankadavu bridge

Banks of Thamirabharani river , are one of the few remaining riverside green stretches in Kanyakumari district.

When you get opportunity to see pure waters and greenery in KK dist rivers, sometimes you feel that it is good that KK dist got left from rapid industrialization happening in most other parts of TN.

Edappad beach

It is a nice drive in this stretch, especially in evening, fresh wind from sea, and smell of fresh fish.. experience the real Indian coastal life, alone, which you cant actually experience from famous beaches full of tourists..

Seems the road passes through border, advt is in Malayalam.

And yes, reminds of the typical kerala roads, and rubber trees, the wet feeling, thanks for the pics.

This place is 10-15 KM from border (Vellarada). This is exactly between Kulasekharam convent Jn and Thirparappu falls.

Malayalam ads are visible in KK dist where many Malayalam talking people reside, such as Kulasekharam, Thirparappu, Neyyoor, Thuckalay, etc. In many these areas, we have even TN election ads in Malayalam!

Thank you.. Interior KanyaKumari district looks like Kerala, since geographically it lies on west side of western ghats.
Rubber territory of KK dist, looks exactly same like Kerala's rubber territory areas, since geographically it is one and same.

Yes, for one moment I forgot that geographically the land till Nagercoil/Kanyakumari is one and the same like Kerala.

Not only the rubber plantations, the scenery you posted of the Tamraparni river reminds me of the shots of Karamana river or neyyar.

I would never like to say we were "part of travancore" or "under travancore" till 1956. But WE WERE TRAVANCORE. In other words travancore was divided, one part went and formed Kerala, and other parts came to TN.

Travancore's half soul lies on this side of border. most of them are not protected at all by TN govt. such as Eraniel Palace, Colachel War Memorial, Padmanabhapuram Fort, Pudukkadai Ammaveedu, Vattakkotta, Udayagirikkotta, and many more...Only Padmahabhapuram palace is maintained well coz it is under Kerala's Archaeological department.

TN's school syllabus also does not include Travancore history. so most of the new generation is not aware of the historical importance of even the neighbourhood they live in.
