Here's a compilation of what's been posted so far. At this stage it's not yet listed on Terry Serepisos' web site, but I do know that the proposal definitely has legs, and appparently it's planned to be even bigger than the Majestic.

I haven't seen any plans, but apparently it looks pretty good: much better than some had feared. It is indeed supposed to go just north of Cable Car Lane, and while it's hard to see where on earth you could fit in a skyscraper there, apparently there's some space tucked in behind Hallensteins House. That would make it a very narrow building, but of course that would just add to the slenderness and daring of the design.

I think I'm starting to get a bit excited about this! :-)

One other question; if it's supposed to be on Lambton Quay next to the cable car (from Wellurban) how can it possibly be the tallest. The height limit there is 80 metres and even with the extra 35% height thats still only 108 metres. Unless he plans to break all the rules? If it is truly going to be the tallest will it be something like tallest as in its roof height is only one floor higher than the Majestic Centre with maybe a 10m spire on it or is should we expect something really spectacular forever altering the skyline in a brilliant way, like the Elliot in Auckland. I really hope that this building doesn't go all Christchurch on us.

They are currently working through the issues with the council, but it shocked me what she had to say, but as yet I have to confirm this so people shouldn't get to excited. I am working to get out as much information as possible. Its the site on Lambton Quay in front of the Novotel. If Terry Serepisos is the local hero at the moment, so this could really happen!!

60 floors, how tall is that? It must be huge because Majectic is less than 30 isn't it. I don't know but i just can't see something that tall being built in Welly but i hope i'm wrong

This is the one to watch for sure. 60 floors would be massive, even if some of that is underground parking levels. So surely 150m + at least. Sweet

If the tower is approved with that number of floors, it would likely have to be truly 'iconic' - ie, right up there with the Sydney Opera House, the Empire State Building, the Bilbao Guggenheim, the London Gherkin etc.

Wow, if this one is built we really will become more like a mini Hong Kong! Anybody know what the current occupancy rates for A grade buildings in the city centre are? Either way I say bring it on. Lets show Auckland how it can be done!

How do these kinds of rumours originate? I'm kinda interested coz I've heard conflicting info about his company being hit pretty hard by the whole credit crunch situation. I'm just trying to work out how excited I should be about this potential building! I suppose we shouldn't get our hopes up till concrete info comes out...

That would make it taller than the Elliot, and getting up there with the Rialto & Eureka in Melbourne.

Both of you need to say what the source of these rumours are. People like to make things up, then people hear things from a 'friend of a friend' and end up blown way of out proportion to what the truth is. Unless you have spoken with someone actually working on it I don't think we should take these too seriously.

I'm not sure a small city like Wellington can really support such a huge building. Certainly if it gets built, it must be the tallest building in the world for a city sub 500k??

Yeah it seems very vague at the moment. But seeing what Serepisos has done with the Wellington Phoenix I wouldn't put anything past him. Bit early to get too excited though.

Fair enough. I can't say too much about it, because there's a lot of confidentiality at stake, but I've heard from reliable sources that there are serious discussions about a building of that height.
