yeah, Akash, in kochi, there are a lot of narrow roads. This is not only the problem of Kochi, but the entire kerala faces this problem. The chittoor road, venduruthi bridge, NH 47 through palluruthy and the mattanchery road are all narrow. The four lining of M G Road, is stopped temporarily due to the political interest. The case of Kaloor-Elamakkara Road is also in the list of narrow roads. Similarly the the road which connects Jos Jn and Shanmugham Road is also narrow.
A new bridge should be constructed near to Venduruthi bridge, in order to avoid the traffic congestion in venduruthi bridge there.

The overhead cables are a problem in the smaller towns. But my god, Kochi's beaches are very pristine and relaxing to the senses (even when viewing through a computer!). How does the city measure up economically these days? I always feel that many southern coastal cities like Kochi, Mangalore, Vizag, etc. can give Mumbai a run for its money if they were somehow promoted more amongst tourists and business-people.

To moderator,

I have a suggestion: I think the name of the thread should be "Kochi (Cochin) - Ernakulam cityscapes" or just "Kochi (Cochin) cityscapes". I think Kochi should be outside the brackets since it's the original and current official name of the city.

Thanks

To Government,

I have a suggestion: Let the name be Kochi, Cochin or Ernakulam!! Its confusing!

If govt passes Metropolitian status for the city, the name can be Cochin or Kochi, as it gives a collective feeling, rather than Ernakulam which is just a small portion of the total city.

I believe in a long run, Ernakulam district will be divided, one Kochi Metropolitian District and another Kochi Rural District or Muvattupuzha District. Hence the issue of Ernakulam/Kochi/Cochin will be resolved

Its not possible to enforce utterance of city name as Kochi, as many people are still comfortable with its English name Cochin. Kochi or Cochin has no big difference in pronunciation other than it way it ends..... North Indians never pronounces the city as Cochin, as traditionally they pronounce it as KOOCHI, whereas westerners pronounce it as Kochin..... Far-Easterners, particularly Chinese, Japanese are very much comfortable to pronounce as Kochi, as its basically a Chinese word

But we cannot promote the city in a global way with the word Kochi, as Japan has a state and city with that same name, along with couple of institutions like Bank of Kochi or Kochi University etc.... So better retain its old name-Cochin.....

I agree with you on this. I personally believe Ernakulam can be removed from title (even though my lady avatar was born here...).

I suggested Kochi be given precedence b/c if I am not mistaken as it is the official name given by state govt. But if you say so, Cochin is fine or how about Kochin.... just joking
