Basically it doesn't strike me as something that will ever happen. I can't describe why, none of the renders or even the models look like something that would ever translate into a real building. Maybe they will maybe i'm wrong, this is dubai afterall. I would however like to see something where these buildings look like they're real. Look at the quality of renders for the london shard and you'll see what i mean. I just don't "get" this project yet, and agree with the poster who said "it sucks".
At least you give a reason I really don't care whether people like it or not, but when somebody is saying something like 'it sucks' or 'stunning', I would just like to know why! if you have a strong ("It sucks!") opinion about something, there must be a reason. Thats all.

I like it because it is a spectacular design, full of technological challenges. It is also a tower which enormous amount of facade for everyone because it are three towers, which is good. There is a lot of open space, it really is something that isn't done before. A 'daring' design I would say, can't wait to see it rise. So, thats my point of view.
Cheers

For this reasons i like it too, but i believe when anybody say it sucks means it doesn't looks good. You say that project is full of technological challenges. Thats true but the project still looks tacky, disproportional, and so on (for me) on renders. If you looking for reason why i find it tacky. I can tell you. Its just my sens of taste, maybee i have bad taste

Samsung wins $95bn Jumeira Gardens tower deal
Published: 10 October 2008 21:45

Three-tower 1-Dubai building is designed by the team behind the Burj Dubai.

South Korea's Samsung Corporation has been appointed as the main contractor for the 600-metre-plus tower on the AED350bn ($95bn) Jumeira Gardens development in Dubai, planned by the local Meraas Development.

The tower, 1-Dubai, will be one of the tallest in the world. It will comprise three towers with glass and aluminium-mesh cladding, linked by bridges that contain suspended apartments.

Each tower will be at least 600 metres tall, making it higher than the tallest completed building in the world, Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which is 509 metres high.

The 1-Dubai project is at the concept stage and Samsung is providing pre-construction services. The tower was designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, who also designed the Burj Dubai, which is being built by a joint venture led by Samsung.

By the way the title is misleading, it says "Samsung wins $95bn Jumeira Gardens tower deal", no way is their deal $95bn, that's for the whole project.

A new article mentions 3281ft (1km) height for the One Dubai. Could well be made up of course. It looked about as tall as the Burj Dubai in the models.

If this building ever gets built,it will become the true symbol of Dubai.A status that the "pencil towers" already U/C or proposed will never achieve.

I believe the design, like the Burj's, comes from Chicago -- home of architect Adrian Smith.

Adrian Smith my new hero! Hmm...maybe I should apply to work for his firm!
We only see the final proposals. Just think of the wild proposals that float around the office. Has anyone ever met this guy from this forum?
