In the case of skyscrapers, the atmospheric conditions may only change slightly (unnoticeable to an ordinary human being). Humans can adapt to the change very well, but not all plants can do the same.
That is what I was thinking. I think Dubai will need to do some research on what plants can live and grow at what altitudes. Some will have to be fake. However, I suppose they will have to at least try with the palm trees and if they die, well then replace them with fake ones.
Note: Fake ones is not necessary a bad thing. They have fake palm trees in areas of Tokyo. You can pass by right next to it and think that it is the real deal.

Back to topic...

Can someone give me a reliable source (in English) where they say it will be 850m?

In this render look like 600m.

In this it might look like an 800m, but then, it will be like 3 times Burj Dubai in volume, so 3 times more materials and work, so 3 times the price, would go up to 12 billion USD. I doubt even the mighty Dubai can aford a 12 billion USD building, and don't tell me because of publicity... (Is easy 3 times BD in size, Burj Dubai, have the last 200m very thin plus the spire, while One Dubai, might have the other 2 parts smaller , but they are thick up to the roof)

Scaled version of a 850m One Dubai vs Burj Dubai:

Is 3 times bigger in volume...

Nice location for it. I'd really love to see this built... one of my favorite designs from Dubai.

Interesting conclusion...

so.......what is your point?
Are you worried that the project is too expensive and thus you think it will not get built? or....
Are you worried that the building render are too thick and want better and more accurate render? or....
Are you worried that it will be bigger and cooler than Burj Dubai?

Why would you find the height figure in a magazine? Those numbers were on the design documentation of the tower, that the developer was presenting in various meetings with potential contractors, consultants and suppliers of materials.

I agree. The magazines are constantly wrong about stuff. Altin doesn't say stuff unless he's talked to someone who actually knows. Most of the magazines just come on here and write articles based on what they read here. You've been here long enough to know who has reliable information and who doesn't, Stephan

Yellow: Areas where ground work had started long a go
Red: Areas where ground work has just started.*

* There was a project board with render of an entire district on the encircled area in the center of the picture.

Does Dubai have its own industrial area or all of the construction resources are imported. So much development requires immense amount of materials. It would be logical that Dubai has its own industrial sector otherwise too much money will go to transportation and import taxes and what not else.

They seem to have very sustainable development. Majour projects appear out of nowhere, proposed approved and build in extremely short span of time.

They probably imported all the steel (from Abu Dhabi, but the iron ore is from abroad), don't know about cement and glass (probably a large amount imported too).

We do have plenty of steel factories , actually two u/c in AD worth 20 billion >< and also we do produce cement .... but we produce at a rate of a normal growing country , not the godzilla growth were seeing in Dubai ! so we also import from Qatar and Egypt.
