Me too. I definitely LOVE that building.

But I have some questions concerning it:
Can someone confirm that the developper is Meraas (or someone else?)

Do we know the actual exact status of this skyscraper? Is the project officially cancelled or do we have a chance to see it built in the future (I mean is it just on hold?)

Yes it's Meraas.

Officially it's on hold however, think of it this way.
Unless fusion nuclear reactors become a reality tomorrow, huge reserves of helium 3 are found below Dubai, then pay back all of their debts then this project stays on hold.

You mean hydrogen anions, helium is the product of a nuclear fusion

I forget the article but it mentioned that Hydrogen anions was discovered in the Dubai region and will provide new growth. So hopefully, this "HOLD" status will change soon thank god!

It is but that's helium 4. This has only one neutron.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium-3
Bombard helium 3 and deuterium (one proton, one neutron), and you get helium 4, one proton and a load of energy.

There are a few different types of reactions and don't know which is the best though. Anyway.

According to the article you cited, Helium 3 has 2 protons and One neutron.

you need "heavy water" aka Deuterium and Tritium both isotopes of Hydrogen. You can't use anything heavier than hydrogen, because helium is the second lightest element and the product of the reaction!!!

Ok the thread goes down the drain....

"Fine, we built an 800 meters tall high skyscraper... now what?
I KNOW!!! Lets build another 3, link them with 600 meters high skybridges and build them over a cannel!"
Wow, Dubai just gets crazier and crazier.

Nice tower, and Helium3 is often considered a better fusion fuel than the Deuterium/Tritium mix. You combine a Helium 3 and a Tritium to get a Helium 4 and a Deuterium. Some people like it better because you don't get loose neutrons flying around, but it would be much harder to fuse.

Because it's approved...?
They just haven't started to build it yet.

Considering the so-called "economic problems" of our times, a fair guess of the completion date would be somewhere around 2020. For now, we can only hope that it gets built.

hopefully I will post new pics tomorrow from the Cityscape

Green shoots for Jumeira Gardens

October 3. 2009

Cityscape Dubai may be more exciting this week than people have been predicting, as Meraas Development emerges from a hiatus brought on by the property slump to announce a plan to move ahead with its Dh350 billion (US$95.3bn) Jumeira Gardens project.

The development, planned for the Satwa and Al Wasl areas of Dubai, will probably take longer to develop than originally planned, but it will “move forward”, said Sina al Kazim, a senior executive at Meraas Development.

“The markets are changing, but there is still a demand in the market for certain types of products,” he said. “We are concentrating on those areas, like residential villas … We are looking to the times when the recession will be over.”

The first part of Jumeira Gardens that could start construction next year would be an island off the coast of Dubai called East Bay Island, which would include high-end villas designed by Tony Owen Partners, an Australian firm.
