....

Samsung is not this project's Contractor..
past news is not exact Information about Contractor Samsung.
If Global Economic crisis will recover soon,I think Samsung will operate Korean Supertall Project(2010 Q1-Yongsan & Songdo) and will participate in One Dubai's Construction(I'm confident)
because Samsung's Supertall Building Contract list not many..
So,Samsung will operate activity of the World new Supertall Builidng project's Construction.

I'm not against high structures, but nowadays it's too early to build structures higher than 500m, because not so many exist now, and imo it makes a bad composition with other part of cities etc.
I'd rather see four 300m bulidings, than one 600m
I agree as well as it been impracticle I have never liked the look of cities with one or two towers miles taller than anything else such as aukland with skytower and toronto with the CN I find it has a dwarfing effect on the rest of the skylineand reduces it's impact. I certainly would not want anything 400+ built in my city until we get at least 2 more 300+ buildings otherwise it would just look silly.

However saying this I think Dubai is a different case to the rest of the world and massive statements such as this and the burj dubai is what the city and its reputation is now built on so by all means build it in Dubai.

Samsung would probably be the ones building this. But the problem has nothing to do with that, it's just that nobody has some spare $20 billion lying around that they want to spend on building something like this.

Hi there,

I love Dubaï's projects,really amazing and huge but I'll never like the city in itself(no personnality,no soul,no history...),100% artificial.

That's a pity, but Dubaï as a city doesn't make me dream at all.New York is by far the greatest "skyscraper city" to me.

go to the old town areas of Dubai around the creek. You can see the old quarters of Dubai with traditional wind towers and abras crossing the creek. Also don't miss Shindagha Heritage Village which gives a great overview of the city history.

Who in dubai would use this, it isn't that large of a city, with a pop. of roughly 2.26 million people..., do they really need something of this size?

I agree. The city would be doing too much too fast. Finish the projects that are u/c first. IMO

I don't like it at all. It's majestic, but arrogant (and somehow wannabe futuristic), unlike BD or Shanghai Tower.

I think it's good that Dubai is building this, and everything else.

In the long run, it will turn Dubai into the center of a lot of business and trade, giving the government profit from not only oil, which will eventually run out, but from all the tax and land ownership by companies.

In the short run, it points us in a new direction towards achieving our highest, and points us away from violence and war. It also is really really big, which finally makes me stunned in a good way by something.

Good job Dubai!
