Ummm, I think the U.S. just gave Dubai about $10 Billion a couple weeks ago...

They gave $10 billion to build this tower/project? I find that quite amusing. If anything, it should be the US receiving financial help

Americans weren't to happy with it either. But, yes, they did give them $10 Billion. And where in the heck did I even say it was for this project?

10 billion would not be enough anyway. Just watch all of that video and you will see why.

Have you guys ever thought about the amount of people that MUST move to Dubai permanatly, that such a big scale project like the JGC works as it should, and gets a new city part of Dubai and not just a big ghostly, investment project? Its not just build, build, build, it should be well planned and as mentioned, i cant believe that this tower and the project will get reality by now and everything together not for the next 3 decades or so.

Because Dubai has not once reached their population or tourist goals. Building a city is about more than creating empty buildings that investors buy and sit on.

According to DTCM (Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing) and DSC (Dubai Statistics Centre) these are the tourist numbers and goals.

1997 - 1.8 million
1998 - 2.6 million
1999 - 3.0 million
2000 - 3.4 million
2001 - 3.6 million
2002 - 4.8 million
2003 - 5.0 million
2004 - 5.4 million
2005 - 6.0 million (goal was 6.5 million)
2006 - 6.2 million (goal was 7.5 million)
2007 - 6.5 million (goal was 9.0 million)
2008 - 7.5 million (goal was 10 million)
2009 - 7.6 million (goal was 12 million)
2010 – Goals was 15 million

The goals above are based on the 2005 set goals. In 2008 they changed the goals to have 10 million by 2010 and 15 million by 2012. These statistics include national tourism, which accounts for around 1.5 million a year.

But some project statistics are even more optimistic. Dubailand alone expects 15 million tourists a year by 2015 and expects to house 2.5 million people once complete.

If you add-up the expectations of major projects, they expect 2 to 4 million additional people within 5 years! Bringing the total anywhere between 4 and 6 million!

There are very good reasons for mayor cities in India and China to grow 5% to 10% annually for the next 10 years. Dubai has been one of the fastest growing cities for the past 25 years. It had an annual average growth rate of 6.2% between 1985 and 1995. Between 1995 and 2005 it has been 5.9% and between 2005 and 2010 it has been an amazing 8.6%! Even if they reach and amazing 10% growth a year, it would be 3 million at best by 2015 and not the expected 4 to 6 million!

Prove it.

I remember the Abu Dhabi U.A.E. giving Dubai a $10 billion bailout, back in December.

I'm sorry. You are right. I could have sworn I heard it on the radio here. Sorry again.
