Ah, so has the refirb begun?

I like it when developments slip under our radar! Always a nice surprise.

If this is a good refurb this will transform the skyline, it will look as though we have had a new tower spring up in a couple of weeks. The current brown looks very warn and dated and tends to either be an eyesore or goes unoticed in pictures.

I get the hint i like concrete, am in the area and will pop down later (just for you ) and get some snaps! Also got some pictures of latitude and digbeth coach station i need to get uploaded. And i agree brums'grove (yet again) that when this is done McClaren can become a talking point of the skyline as well as our photographs.

Hey Hey, just went down this afternoon and got some snaps of the new glass cladding going on. I remember a while back some of us were worried that it would be the grey rubbish that appeared on the bottom of the building, however; fear not!! The new glass i thing already looks stunning and i can't wait to see more go up!! Plus there has also been a lot of work going on at the side, looks like new doors or windows.

Cheers BDE, I agree that the glass is looking pretty good

Should this thread now be moved in to the Construction Forum then?

Will the new entrance be at this corner? It would shorten the planned bridge. I wonder what the plans for the entire refurb are?

Thanks Bureau! If the whole thing is clad like that it'd look very shiny and modern.

I think these apertures are new - when I worked at McLaren I don't remember any extra windows than the ones that go up the centre of the ends.

All those holes are new, they're building a new entrance on that side of the building.

So if they are carrying out a major refirbishment, shouldn't there be a planning application with renders??

Maybe their just hoping BCC won't notice the big brown thing in the middle of the city change dramatically in a few months.

This isn't a major refurbishment, they're just building a new entrance with associated works... I remember there being a planning application relating to something like this here.

Here we are:
Quote:
Application number: C/06108/08/FUL
Date application received: 27/11/2008
Date application registered: 15/12/2008
Status: Decision Made
Location: 35 Dale End, The Maclaren Building, City, B4 7LN

Proposal

New ground floor reception entrance, footbridge to link Priory Queensway and replacement of louvres with glazing to Dale End facade

Applicant name and address:
Bruntwood Managment Services Ltd
24th Floor
City Tower
Piccadilly Plaza
Manchester
M1 4BD

Agent name and address:
Drivers Jonas
Cornwall Court
19 Cornwall Street
Birmingham
B3 2DY

Council decision: Approve - Conditions

Decision date: 15/01/2009
And here are some images:

It may be completely done in the future but the works we are seeing right now are just for that small section of the building so that there is a new entrance and footbridge. Not too sure what happened to them plans for a full extensive make over.

Oh dear lord!! I thought we were witnessing a full re-clad and interior refurbishment!! that is so depressing, now we're left with one corner of the building that will look incredible just to tease us and the rest won't be done for years (if at all). I could already imagine this black beauty on the skyline looking stunning. Its probably my own fault for not reading the thread properly but still annoyed
