Unfortunately it's too short to get a clear view to the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Y'know, the other two icons...

The designers can be blamed for lack of foresight. Though I wonder if they could have gone higher with the CASA.

nope. the tower is got one of the shortest spires (31m) for a tall telecommunication tower.if not the shortest spire.
so it could have easily 100m spire/antenna which may have lowered the turret much like aucklands. 330mRl is what CASA have enforced and syd tower goes to Rl327m.

I actually think a very bland building would suit this site... Imagine how dominant a WTC style tower would look. And it will keep attention on the surrounding towers too, a nice Chicago style build would suit too. Sydney would look great with another box roof... Too many spires and the buildings will start to look generic.

i understand what your saying, but at 235m it wont be sydneys tallest (offcially) anyway. it will be tallest to roof. current tallest is World tower at 230m or MLC at 228m.
current offical tallest is chifley at 244m and citgroup at 243m. (spires) but this has the "ok" to add 23m of architectural feature as a 10% bonus to 'contribute" to the skyline and enhance sydneys cityscape as quoted in DA approval. i can tell you now it wont be an all glass shard like current enevlope indiactes. it will be busy with balconies ect. hopefully the top will be stepped back plantrooms topped with spire similar to adhjacent centruy tower. image hosted on flickr ![]() this is once in decade oportunity to get a new tallest 250m+ skyscraper for sydney which seems to be so hard to acheive this day and age i say lets go for it.

However an architectural feature doesn't always mean a spire. I hope all of the balconies are enclosed like Lumiere. Let's hope it isn't too long before we get the winning renders!

Perhaps a roof feature similar to the top of the building LV is housed in under 345 George street or some type of glass box that is lite up at light with a nice "glow" with warm colours a sort of morden day torch

![]() Hard to say. Depends when the developer wants to lodge the DA and what is unfolding in regards to the sale of the site.

I dont know if a spire is going to be the right type of architectural feature top off this tower. Sydney has become obessed with spires just to jack up the height.

Yeah shame about not being able to jack it up a bit more then add on the spire. If it weren't for the silly height limit then Sydney would be the perfect city.
You know what really maketh a city? Not just spires but spires on top of a tall, large and imPosing 700 footer office tower |

I thought spires were allowed to go up to infinity (CASA limit) I also though arch features were allowed up to inifinity (CASA limit)? |

this has a 23m (10%) addition if developers want. It has to be uninhabitable. im pretty sure a spire can go even further above this 10%, so 236m + 23m= 259m, + 30m spire= 289m.its possible, but not sure CASA will approve.

CASA's height limit not lower in Sydney, but CASA may raise concerns due to the nearness of Sydney Airport, which I think is bullplop.

CASA limit is RL330m in metro sydney. so depends where you build a tower. If you build it on highest part of sydney (hornsby already Rl220m), it can be only 110m tall.
but in sydney you can build it at nealry sea level BUT only to 235m roof. above this is architectural feature which can go to 300m. but that has to be approved by council. the architectural feature may look crap.that equats to 235m+ 65m=300m. so 65m spire of feature. its a big one. its 1/4 of bldgs height. would you belive technically we could build Atlantas tallest in Sydney!!! 312m bank of America the 55storey tower has a roof at 235m. then open frame feature reaches 285m, then 27m spire at 312m.
