I really hope it's true that developers are biding their time until the zoning changes finally go through (man it takes a long time to get something like this done). I look forward to South Lake Union really being a northward extension of Downtown.

Crazy people whining about million dollar views. What a bunch of elitist jerks. And "snickering" about earthquakes. Sounds like the freaking Taliban. The envy of youth and vitality knows no bounds.

While I agree losing views is not a good reason to halt development, I'm sure you all would be whining too if your $800,000 condo dropped to $500,000 because it suddenly lost its view. Again, not saying its right, just don't need the smuggery.

100% of those commenters don't have downtown views. That's where I lose respect for them and let the smug kick in. They have agoraphobia and want to live back in the 1950's and we all need to have to too until they pass away or ELSE.

You have a reasonable point, but anyone purchasing homes in the area was aware of the possibility. The reason why their homes are $800k and not $100k is the cultural and economic vitality that these highrises cause. If they want unobstructed views forever then move to South Park or the suburbs. |

It's funny to see McGinn becoming a mayor so late in the game. He may leave behind a sort of positive legacy yet.

Such optimism! It's the council that's kept him from getting much done, and Conlin says he hasn't even seen this zoning yet. Expect cautious press releases some time this week, followed by painfully bad Times stories, followed by rounds and rounds of community meetings, followed by dropping the whole project.
Expect that, and when we actually get a mild upzoning we can be less depressed at the end of the process. |

Great. Can we upzone the Denny Triangle while we're at it?

Most of that is right at 500' right? Does anyone have an easy-to-read zoming map that isn't a gargantuan PDF?
Also First Hill, Central District, U-District, Northgate, and Beacon Hill imo. |

Also, it's funny that the Smith Tower is alone in a 345' zone, when it's 463'. Maybe in case it falls down they're ready with the zoning for a replacement o_O |

At the very least, the Triangle should be 650' with allowance for some structures up to 750-800'. I'd push SLU up to 500' and also allow more of the same for LQA, maybe up to 350'. LQA would be the hardest to push, considering the view of the Space Needle from UQA. I like having some space available for our greatest human-made icon, but having more sensible development that acknowledges said icon doesn't mean we can't have taller structures closer to it.

As Mother RuPaul would say, "Can I get an amen up in here?"
