cool they are hispanic...they speak spanish.. thats all it means, has nothing to do with race. My dad is french.. he is white and he speaks french not another race, end of story. There is a reason the US census has "white" for the entire country and a SEPERATE "hispanic non white" category, since it would be retarded to tell spanish speakers from spain they are not white, even if they have blond hair and blue eyes.

Notice there is no "hispanic" category for race.

US census 2006
Quote:
White: 73.9% or 221.3 million
Black or African American alone: 12.2% or 37.1 million
Asian alone: 4.4% or 13.1 million
American Indian or Alaska Native alone: 0.8% or 2.4 million
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander alone: 0.14% or 0.43 million
Some other race alone: 6.3% or 19.0 million
Two or more races: 2.0% or 6.1 million

Each of the above categories includes people who identify their ethnicity as Hispanic or Latino. U.S. federal law defines Hispanic or Latino as any person of "Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race."

Hispanic or Latino of any race: 14.8% or about 44.3 million.
White Hispanic - 23,154,516
Black Hispanic - 616,953
American Indian and Alaska Native - 333,880
Asian Hispanic - 154,694
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander - 38,964
Some other race - 18,238,347
Two or more races - 1,714,924
Argentina a "latin/hispanic" country but also a "white" country
Quote:
Citizens of European descent make up the great majority of the population, with estimates varying from white 89.7% to 97% of the total population. The last national census, based on self-ascription, indicated a similar figure.[49] A study conducted by Argentine, Swedish and North American institutions, established that the genetic average structure of the Argentine population, contains 79,9% of European contribution
Argentina is a whiter nation then the US is.

There is no hidden agenda for the census in miami, it is simple, alot of the hispanics/latins in miami are in fact of european white descent. Go to argentina, or go to the white areas of brazil and mexico, and they are white and consider themselves white people.

Spanish (white) conquistadores standing over a native american (different race, though many latin americans are a mix of the 2 today)

J.H.C. on a popcicle stick. Forget the Census.

Dade is maybe 15% whites, and the rest are black and hispanics, which makes up the remaining 85%. My original point was correct and still is. race, shmace. I never said anything about race. Why are you people complicating things so much?

I don't care what some people consider themselves from Argentina, Brazil, or Mexico. "Hispanic" is a recognized minority in the U.S., and a supermajority of Dade is hispanic.

I never said anything about skin shade or race.

"Dade is maybe 15% whites"

Wrong dade is 70%+ white. And Hispanic is not a minority race in the united stated census. There is no hispanic "race" in any census. You are confusing the term. Dade is not 15% white it is 70%+ white, and like 60% + or so hispanic/latin (as opposed to german/anglo/french/russian).

Quote:

What are you smoking? You keep saying "white". Even right now.

"Dade is maybe 15% whites, and the rest are black and hispanics"

White is a race, black is a race, hispanic is NOT a race. Stop mixing the terms. Dade is 70% white with the majority of them belnging to the white race, but the spanish speaking/latin culture.

Thats like saying, Orlando is 5% asian and 3% japanese. You dont seperate the 2 groups just because japanese speak a different language and have a different culture, we are still asian, so its 8% asian.(im making up the asian stats btw) And then later you can seperate them, like the US census does, the US is 73% white, out of those 73% whites 60% or so are non hispanic whites, just like you can say, 50% of asians are non-japanese asians.

the whole point is the reality that Miami is a haven for Cubans and other hispanics, et al. always has been. Dade is mostly hispanic, whether you're white or not. But those census numbers are trying to hide that fact by classifying hispanics as white to make Dade "whites" look like they're like Duval "whites" or Cuyahoga "whites" or Cook "whites" which isn't the case. That designation is the first time I've ever seen that.

I've got a buddy who's Cuban descent; born in Miami; and he's more white than me- but he's still hispanic, still a minority, still gets that benefit on applications, and makes up the majority of what you'll find in Dade. Another buddy is Mexican descent from AZ and now lives in the Gables. And yet another buddy is Puerto Rican descent from NYC and is also more white than me. He lives in Orlando and is also hispanic.
I understand what you're saying, and I'm not disagreeing, but the way Hispanics are classified in Miami, is the same way they are all over the U.S., you probably just didn't realize. Just an FYI.

Its not some plot to make Miami seem "whiter". Its just how the census does things everywhere, a hispanic can be white, blonde hair, blue eyes and speak english better than spanish or not even speak spanish (like my mother). But the "white" term you are trying to use which is basically the non-hispanic "white is actually 18% of Dade not 15%, just saying. Wether you can accept it or not hispanics are white too, and in the US of A alot of them are as american as you and me.

Ok, Dade has maybe 15-18% non-hispanic whites, and a majority of Dade is hispanic. I looked it up, and hispanics are considered an ethnic minority in the US.

And Hanshin-Tigress, take a chill pill. read what I'm writing. I'm talking ehtnicity not race. If Kevinkagy and Hia-leahJDM know what I'm talking about, then why can't you? read more carefully instead of flying off the handle.

Also, what you say about Asians isn't totally true. If it were, then there wouldn't be a Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Orlando... it would be lumped under the general Asian Chamber, which also exists.

take a chill pill? How about learning to speak english correctly?

"I never said anything about skin shade or race."

"Dade is maybe 15% whites, and the rest are black and hispanics"

Learn what white and black means and how hispanic is not a race like white and black are. That is what everyone in here has been saying but you obviously can't understand this very simple fact.

Ok there is no "white" census anymore it is german/english/french/spanish/romanian/greek. There is no asian census it is chinese/japanese/vietnamese etc. There is no "black/african american" census anymore it is hatian/nigerian etc. Right? Newsflash, youre wrong again.

You tell me to learn how to speak english correctly. Funny. I'll do that when you learn how to read it correctly. Start with my last post. I already said "hispanic" is a recognized "ethnic" minority in the US, not "racial" minority.

And a prior post of mine mentioned an hispanic reference to whites, namely "gringos," to clarify what I meant by the term "white."

Yet you persist.

Either you can't read thoroughly or you refuse to, and instead choose to argue a point that noone is arguing except you.

Kevinkagy and HialeahJDM already acknowledged my points; do you acknowledge this at least?

recognize? They said they "understand" your point, but dont agree with it and still say you are wrong. With your statements like
"Dade is maybe 15% whites, and the rest are black and hispanics"

Too bad you are completely wrong and have no idea what youre talking about. Im not even american and i am right, and you are wrong . And have you ever been to mexico or other parts of latin america? They use gringo even for african americans.
Quote:
Gringo (feminine, gringa) is a term in the Spanish and Portuguese languages used in some countries of Latin America to refer to foreigners from different cultures, particularly English-speakers, and especially from the United States

Mexico, Central America, the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, South America: In these areas the word may mean specifically a citizen of the United States.

In South America, the word is not pejorative. In some countries it may be used to refer to any foreigner who does not speak Spanish, but in other countries it is used just or especially to refer to U.S. citizens
Sorry but wrong again.

of the 78% you call white, 58% of that is "white hispanic"? If it's a minority, it's non-"white" no matter how you slice it. And of that 78%, 20% is actually white, which means in all of Dade, something like only 15% is white.
And once again totally wrong.

And then you said "white anglos" when the majority of the US, isnt even "anglo" they are german etc.

And you wonder why south florida wants to seperate from the rest of florida? It's because of people like this that have no idea about what theyre talking about especially when it comes to south florida. I'm moving down to Fort Lauderdale this august and i can't wait to leave Orlando to be honest. I've never met so many ignorant people in my life. Some people even ask me if in japan we have movie theatres?

WTF???

It's like a bad dream. I can't believe you're still ranting about a point made two days ago and yet you refuse to acknowledge my last post, or the one before that, where I clarified my prior points to say the majority of dade is hispanic and a minority is white non-hispanic, which is an indisputable fact.

I never said they "agreed" with my posts; I said they "acknowledged" my point. You said they "agreed", not me, and you're arguing a point I never made.

Continuing to bring up old points that have already been corrected and/or clarified several posts ago makes you sound like a conversationally challenged individual. seriously, I let you slide in my last post since you kept doing it even up until then. But, you're doing the same thing yet again and I can't let it slide. You need to check yourself, learn how to converse like an adult, and learn how to relate better to others, b/c you sound... well, it sure as hec doesn't make you sound like you're the sharpest tool in the shed.

Let's hope south florida becomes its own state it would be great. No more people like quince who have no idea what they're talking about hehe. It's really a shame when people have to get schooled by foreigners about their own country.

The guy is a Greek dude trying to pass as a white man. You know how those southern Europeans are. Even the browniest Greek with black hair and black eyeballs, 5'1" tall, and stocky will call himself a "white anglo saxon".

It's funny (kind sad actually)...interestingly enough...the South Fla metro area is really self-segregated (culturally anyway) the groups mostly keep to themselves in their separate neighborhoods...towns...cities--suburban ghettos. Things are changing of course, or probably shifting. One group moving in, another moving out...etc...

It's not about race really. Even African Americans don't really see eye to eye with black Caribbean islanders or black latinos.

Things change I suppose. People adapt...or not (flight or fight). A lot of people resent the fact that you have this huge group of people living in a place that don't speak English for at least half the time. And regardless of what some crazy congressmen would have you think--isn't a third world country. Since I speak Spanish I'm not bothered by the fact, but I can definitely see why that would bother someone who doesn't...especially if they feel so bothered by the fact and so out-of-place that they have to move away from a place they have lived all their life.

In a lot of places down here though you don't see the Hispanic culture-dominance (the whole self-segregation thing)...that scares a lot of folks.

It is what it is...the issue of RACE is big in America. Especially in the melting-pot cities. Most of it is fear of change. This whole fight against "illegal immigration" may have some merits (it IS a global issue) but here in the U.S. I definitely can't help but notice at least some cultural/"racial" prejudice behind it....politicians love those wedge issues...keeps people divided and easily controlled.

It would be cool if South Florida became its own state...but that is not happening. I think it would be nice though if Tallahassee would show us more love.

I say we move the capital to a more central location...Orlando?
